Asian stock markets finished mixed on Tuesday amid the on-going global trade war while the Malaysian market was closed for Thaipusam. The benchmark FBMKLCI (KLCI) inched down 0.96pts or 0.06% to end Monday at 1,589.95. Most sectors were in the red barring financial services (+0.13%) and REIT (+0.06%). The top laggards were technology (-1.86%), construction (-1.03%) and plantation (-0.71%). Trading volume grew to 3.00bn (up from 2.96bn previously) but trading value decreased to RM1.85bn (down from RM2.22bn previously). Market breadth turned negative as 367 gainers underperformed 590 decliners.

The benchmark stayed relatively flat on Monday as the overhead moving averages acted as resistance to cap gains. The 1,600 psychological level may also keep a lid on gains if there are any residual buying momentum in the short term. Longer-term, there is a good chance that a fairly significant low may be in place following the likely confirmation of the bullish double bottom pattern last week. Any weakness ahead should find support at 1,576 or at the 1,545-1,550 levels. NOTE: Our portfolio reverts to *risk-on mode* this week.
