Is Correct Mindset Alone Enough?

Is mindset really everything to achieve success? You may at the very least do decent but you are less likely to achieve optimum result. To be the best version of yourself you need to have many ‘rights’ controllable and not controllable. Either of the following if deviate the slightest will result in a totally different result.

You need to be born at the correct time. You need to be born in the correct place and setting. Your gender needs to be right. Your race needs to be correct. You need to have the right temperament. You need to be in the right industry. You need to have the right supporting cast.

If Warren Buffet wasn’t born a male, wasn’t born in the states, wasn’t born white, wasn’t born during a time where industrial sector was having massive advancement and wasn’t born with such unique temperament he won’t be where he is.

The same concept applies to company. For a company to achieve economic miracle, just relying on the management is far from enough. BYD was originally a phone battery maker. It was already in the right line of work far before EV market gets big. When opportunity came the management just scale up into building more EV Cars while having control of the key component lithium battery. China was the supporting cast in dishing out billions of yuan in subsidy so that BYD can effectively pare down their base cost. This is the second right. By the time, Tesla launched their model 3 in China, BYD was already in position to retaliate. Chinese companies is accounted about 70% lithium raw mat refining. Tesla had no choice but to purchase from Chinese players to meet production. This is third right. Wang Chuanfu as the perfect visionary and executor for BYD is the fourth right. If any one of these is absent, there is no way Mr. Wang can carry BYD to cripple Tesla market in China and probably dominate the world EV sales if US doesn’t intervene by placing high barrier tax. Now I don’t know the future of BYD especially knowing US will try everything they can to intervene but one thing for sure they are the clear lowest cost provider and economies of scale they built will help them demolish other player on a fair ground.

I often hear mindset is everything or if you die poor it’s your own fault. At least to me, It is only true to a certain extend.
