KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will seek information from the National Security Council (NSC) regarding allegations of a conspiracy between government officials and IT vendors that allowed procurement to bypass proper oversight.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki told Buletin Utama that they had not yet received any reports on the issue. 

"As far as I recall, we haven't been informed about this matter," he said, as quoted by TV3.

Last Friday, Buletin TV3 reported that 150 out of 740 active information technology (IT) systems within a government agency have unidentified owners.

NSC director-general Datuk Raja Nurshirwan Zainal Abidin revealed that this came to light after one of the systems was hacked last month.

He described the situation as alarming and claimed the problem stemmed from a conspiracy between government officials and IT vendors, allowing procurement processes to be completed without sufficient oversight.

Nurshirwan added that this lack of organisation also created opportunities for corruption, as the systems could be easily manipulated.
