It's almost time to fly. 3.30 to 3.50 fair price. 4.00 to 4.20 if next Q net profit can maintain above 60mil. I believe very likely to achieve that. Just wait for mid May QR!

Favorable conditions to Masteel:
1) stronger MYR
2) relatively stable steel rebar and billet prices in Malaysia (can refer to MITI weekly bulletin)
3) infrastructure projects
4) construction projects

This is not a goreng counter, unfortunately too many retailers invest here and unable to withstand the selling pressure. Within 3 weeks the stock price is pushed down to Sept 2017 level. I suspect it will fall further as it is getting interesting even for retailers to reinvest here. Well only time will tell. Malaysia steel billet and rebar prices are kind of stable at 2300 and 2600 minimum respectively. MYR strengthen against USD is also a good thing for Masteel. I'm looking forward to next QR.

The internet is too powerful nowadays and people love to affect others with fear and greed. This is what drives the stock market any way, however I hope it is done more ethically. We earn together with the company. And not earn from short term pump and dump actvity. It is unfair to the company and unfair to almost all investors.

Malaysian steel rebar and billet prices are quite stable. Why are you keep referring to the Chinese price?

Local negative sentiment probably due to uncertainties for the general election.
Other stimuli might be fear of trade war, US imposed tariff on steel & alu and US Fed rate.
It's kind of painful to hold through. Those investors who bought early have almost all profits wiped out and those who bought late is suffering major paper loss or need to cut loss.
If majority is selling so much, which party is absorbing the price fall? It seems like every bid also got buyers but it just keep on dropping slowly.

U.S. eases way to more tariff exemptions under pressure from allies

In my opinion, it is very unlikely from the beginning that Trump will impose this tariff and import duty. Too many industries are at risk, and their local steel manufacturers may emerge as winner from this, but many more industries will suffer, automaker, f&b maker that uses tin, and even industry that processes imported steels. More losers in the US itself than gainers. Why would he proceed with this? What is he trying to achieve?

If the tariff is imposed, it affects more than just steel and aluminium producers. Manufacturers that use steel and aluminium will take a hard hit too. The whole chain reaction is unimaginable and hence I don't think the US would just let trump and his administration do whatever they like. EU is already hinting counter measures and will seek WTA should Trump imposes the tariffs. China too has standby with countermeasures. Let the economists think, we just invest when value presents itself.

This company is currently worth at least RM1.10 if you exclude its debt, most steel mills usually run on high debt anyway. Unless following quarters it fails to deliver good profit then it is doomed. Otherwise I think the drop is mostly because of bad market sentiment and fear.
2018-03-07 18:25 | Report Abuse
Once Trump settles his tariff issue, this stock should return to 1.3 region. There's nothing wrong fundamentally. Maybe in months to come we can see clearer whether something is wrong or pure panic and fear.

Over 70million shares traded over the last few days. Who is buying them? When everyone is asked to sell, it seems someone also buying. If you look at the chart, price of 0.98-1.00 is actually a good support, this company stock price is just under correction.

Keep repeating as you may. Your price is at best a historical representation. You're not even forward looking. Are you investing in the stocks for 1year before or for the future?
2018-03-06 07:31 | Report Abuse
The real fear behind this is not the tax tariff on imported steels and alu. It's the retaliation actions from other countries that the traders around the world fear.

The stock has bonus issue 1:3, entitlement date 14th Feb 2018.
Currently the price fell from 1.40 to 1.07, which is at 50% Fibonacci retracement level (depends on how and where you define the high/low though).
If price can consolidate above 1.07 then there is very high chance this stock will rebound and retest the resistance at 1.40. However, if investors are still fearful and pessimistic, the stock price will not recover so soon.

In my opinion in terms of TA, the stock price is indeed expected to make some correction, however it is overly done as mentioned by a few here. Perhaps the general investors are disappointed with the Quarterly Earnings, and most probably affected by the "trade war" fear that was triggered from Trump's plan to increase Steel and Aluminium import tariff. I think the correction is over done but I can't predict the future and I don't know how soon will the price recover and also its magnitude. Charting wise, the short term uptrend line support is at about 1.14, unfortunately this level is broken on 2nd March (Fri). Previous low of 1.08 is broken too. The chart is certainly not looking good, there's a glimpse of hope as the stock is severely oversold, rebound may take place provided investors are still optimistic with this company.
In my opinion in terms of FA, the quarterly earnings from FY17Q1 to FY17Q4 looked quite stable in terms of the gross profit at around 35mil except in Q2 (24mil only). Q4's gross profit is about 10% lesser than Q3 (net profit is even lower, about 30% even with Q4 recorded higher revenue) due to "lower margin on a higher material and consumables cost despite an improved selling price in the current quarter." (as quoted in the Q4 Report)

Masteel revenue generated outside of Malaysia is less than 2.5% of its total revenue. The prospects of its business rely more heavily on local infrastructure projects rather than exports. Hope majority of Masteel investors are well aware of its business than to panic sell on unrelated news and rumors.
