Sifu gohkimhock much respect to your longstanding value investing principles but are you sure affin bank is one of them? I’m more inclined to think it’s similar to your haio pick and look how that turned out.

I honestly think it would be a +ev move to sell all your stocks and go all in on PCHEM, not going to do it though obviously but still.

Regardless, the future prospects are bright as indicated in their latest QR.

Philip, when do you intend to put your money where your mouth is and top up again? (that came off abit crass, not my intention)

Interestingly LCTitan had better results this quarter than PChem

Not sure what you mean by better result by petdag, if it's anything to by it's probably not going to be too good

If you’re so sure they will make a loss in the last quarter why don’t just sell and buy back agin?

Yarra milk is actually Farm Fresh milk repackaged whilst Farm Fresh is still selling the same milk under it's own brand at a slightly higher price. Not entirely sure why.

Looking back at this, Buffet’s Owner’s Earnings require a calculation of changes in working capital, if one looks at the latest QR available, the changes to the working capital is positive, this means that working capital reduced resulting in more cash available to the owners, this needs to be added back, on top of depreciation and amortization
2020-02-06 19:25 | Report Abuse
I think Choivo took the net cash from operating activities from Jan to September. Doing so amounts to 975m, deducting the total capital expenditure of 345m would reach roughly the same figure as Choivo.
2020-02-06 19:13 | Report Abuse
Philip, I do not know how Choivo counts owner's earnings, but I was under the impression that c) would represent capital expenditure found in the cash flows from investing activities under PPE, taking the entire figure would be the free cash flow, safer rather than determining which portion of that is growth capex or maintenance capex. I do not know how else would one count it other than what I mentioned.

Nothing odd here. Your long term returns reflect your investing acumen. Rather than being an ass, just compare your 10 year investment returns with your investing principle, the docks that you bought, the stocks you thought were good but didn't buy, and the stocks that others bought but you thought were not good. No use giving a million analysis if your investing returns are not there.
I think I will stop replying your messages, as I find you making no sense whatsoever, and the results shows.

Phillip,
Not trying to be an ass. I'm being sincere with this comment here.
But that article actually made me want to buy more. Really odd right.

Question is, why are you buying LCTitan instead of Pchem?
2020-01-23 09:48 | Report Abuse
To say one would never lose money on a particular stock is foolish to say the least, it may very well be a good investment I don’t know, but even the best of the best of stocks are prone to losing money for investors, at least in the short term, and alliance bank is nowhere close to being the best of the best

Temasek's effective ownership is about 15% though.
2020-01-09 07:52 | Report Abuse
So in other words, you have a good feeling about the stock because of Temasek and that it is a bank. Gotta say though, it is after all the smallest bank in Malaysia, doesn't have that great numbers and with interest rates potentially dropping, you would likely need to average down more in time. I wish you the very best nonetheless and will keep an eye on it. It is ultimately trading at historic lows.

@icon8888
Petron for example, B2C company at PE5 (earnings normalized), ROIC > 15 growing at the fastest rate out of all the petrol stations and able to control its entire chain of operations from refinery to distribution to pump, relatively recession proof in that everyone needs to pump petrol be it at Shell, Petronas or Petron. Recent oil price increase will likely be beneficial on a net basis despite derivative losses. Cheap, margin of safety, value, no moat but pretty good business nonetheless with government subsidising the difference in price up or down.
Why is ABMB your biggest position besides it being dumped down to the price it is now because of impairment losses. Currently trading at 0.7x P/B but ROA comfortably less than 1% now, barely 1% at its peak, gearing ratio currently 8.8, I don't know, I don't see it being that superb? Is it purely because of the impairments which may or may not be a one off provision?

OTB, can you also post the stocks that you lose big for balance? Thank you.
2019-12-24 21:20 | Report Abuse
Its good that you have invested at such an early age and have gotten some good returns, however just keep in mind that what you are doing is not investing but trading, there's nothing wrong with it but you need to understand the differences, lest you get into trouble when the markets turn or the OTB system reverts or regresses to the mean and you get stuck under the assumption that you are still investing.
