KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 7): Nova MSC Bhd’s indirect subsidiary EyRIS Pte Ltd has bagged a five-year contract from Singapore’s Ministry of Health for the deployment of SELENA+, EyRIS’ first artificial intelligence (AI)-based product.
In a statement released today, Nova MSC said SELENA+ will be part of Singapore’s national screening programme and is expected to deliver a “tremendous” recurring income for the group over the long run. However, no value was disclosed for this newly awarded contract.
Nova MSC said SELENA+ cuts the time needed to spot signs of diabetic eye diseases, namely diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration.
SELENA+ was jointly developed by a research team from the Singapore National Eye Centre’s Singapore Eye Research Institute and the National University of Singapore’s School of Computing.
EyRIS is 42% owned by novaHEALTH Pte Ltd, which in turn is wholly-owned by Nova MSC.
“There are more than 415 million diabetics in the world today who require annual eye check-ups to prevent vision impairment,” said its group chief executive officer Lai Teik Kin.
“With this intelligent deep learning system by SELENA+, it can perform automated image analysis of retinal images with results in mere seconds, much faster than the best trained human graders. Moreover, there is always a chance of human error, which can be prevented with SELENA+,” he added.
Expected to go live in November 2020 as part of Singapore’s national screening program, Lai said SELENA+ will initially be deployed to screen 120,000 patients annually.
“For a start, we do not focus solely on the profits that can be generated from these patients as we aim to leverage on this track record to work with other partners globally.
“For context, if we were to capture 1% of the diabetics in the world, there would be more than 4 million patients that will benefit from this technology and along with that, tremendous recurring income opportunities,” Lai added.
Lai said this award is not only a milestone for Singapore but is also the world’s first in showcasing real world adoption of an AI-based medical device in a national screening programme.
“It is our mission to introduce practical and proven technology to chronic care management and work with relevant authorities and organisations to develop screening programmes and protocols. Such initiatives will address the need for ever increasing manpower to tackle retinal complications resulting from diabetes, the world’s fastest growing chronic disease,” Lai said.
Nova MSC’s shares closed unchanged at 11 sen today, valuing the company at RM103.42 million.

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 3): Sapura Energy Bhd’s SapuraOMV Upstream today announced its Bakong gas field project under the SK408 Production Sharing Contract (PSC) is now in stable production.
SapuraOMV is 50% held by Sapura Energy, with Austria’s OMV Aktiengesellschaft holding the other 50%.
The production phase started in June 2020, following the successful production from SapuraOMV's Larak gas field in December 2019, and the start-up of the Shell-operated Gorek field in May 2020. The SK408 gas fields are part of the discoveries made by SapuraOMV Upstream in a drilling campaign in 2014.
"With this first production from Bakong field, Phase 1 of the SK408 development is now entirely on stream," said SapuraOMV in a statement.
"The Phase 1 development of SK408 PSC aims to commercialise the gas reserves from Larak, Gorek and Bakong fields. As per the upstream gas sales agreement with Petronas, SapuraOMV Upstream and its SK408 partners will supply gas from these fields to the Petronas LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak," it added.
“This achievement further strengthens our presence in the existing market, propelling us to become one of the most significant gas producers in the country and in the region, which would further cement our position as a trusted and reliable oil and gas company,” said SapuraOMV’s chairman Tan Sri Shahril Shamsudin.
Meanwhile, Johann Pleininger, the Executive Board Member responsible for Upstream and Deputy Chairman of OMV, said: “With the successful start-up phase, we are setting a further step in strengthening the gas focus in our production portfolio and it is a strong signal in our OMV core region Asia-Pacific.”
The SK408 gas fields are SapuraOMV’s second major Upstream gas development project in East Malaysia, following the successful development and commencement of production from the SK310 B15 gas field, the company said.
With the full ramp-up of the first phase of SK408, SapuraOMV’s production is scheduled to increase to more than 30 kboe/d (kilobarrel of oil equivalent per day) in 2020, which will be more than double the production rate compared to 2019.
SapuraOMV’s partners under SK408 PSC are Sarawak Shell Bhd (30%) and PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (30%).
Shares of Sapura Energy settled half a sen or 3.85% lower at 12.5 sen today, giving it a market capitalisation of RM1.997 billion.

REKOD TERBARU HARGA HARIAN TERTINGGI MINYAK SAWIT MENTAH (MSM) MALAYSIA
REKOD HARGA TERTINGGI 2021
RM4,247.50 (15 Mac 2021)
RM4,270.00 (9 April 2021)
RM4,306.50 (21 April 2021)
RM4,376.50 (22 April 2021)
RM4,428.50 (23 April 2021)
RM4,502.00 (3 Mei 2021)
RM4,525.50 (4 Mei 2021)
RM4,548.50 (5 Mei 2021)
RM4,652.00 (6 Mei 2021)
RM4,758.50 (7 Mei 2021)
FAKTOR YANG MENYUMBANG KEPADA PENINGKATAN HARGA MSM
1) Peningkatan Harga Minyak Kacang Soya (SBO)
2) Peningkatan Eksport Minyak Sawit
3) Stok Minyak Sawit Yang Kekal Terurus
