KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 2): Asdion Bhd ( Valuation: 0.00, Fundamental: 1.35), now officially branching out to shipping business, is applying for a new licence of stock yard lease from Kuantan Port Consortium Sdn Bhd. This came after a legal drama brewing with the former major shareholder of the logistics company Asdion acquired, who was accused of breaching fiduciary duties.

"We have taken all the necessary steps for the renewal (of stock yard permit). The licensing is not an issue, it is subject to a year-to-year renewal," said Asdion's 51%-owned Taz Logistics Sdn Bhd's executive director Jason Mimos anak Peter at Asdion's extraordinary general meeting (EGM) today.

Neither Jason nor Asdion board members wanted to elaborate on the legal proceedings the company took against Taz Logistics' former chief executive officer and major shareholder Datuk Mohamed Ridzuan Mohd Nor, along with the company's three ex-directors who resigned from the company.

"That will be dealt later; it is too early to comment," Jason said.

Last week, Asdion reported to Bursa Malaysia that it has commenced legal proceedings against Mohd Ridzuan and the other ex-directors, one of which is former Deputy Transport Minister Tan Sri Tengku Azlan ibni Sultan Abu Bakar, to seek compensation for damage and losses these parties had caused.

The stock yards leased under Taz Logistics, which Asdion said was "an important component of the business", were terminated. Asdion then suspected the new leases were held under a company linked to Mohd Ridzuan, who is also the son of Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop.

Asdion's executive vice chairman Mohamad Farid Mohd Yusof chimed in to say there could be a negative impact to Asdion's financials arising from this issue.

Asdion's shares have been on a downtrend this past week after announcing the legal suit. At 11:49 am today, it was traded five sen or 8.13% lower at 56.5 sen. Just last week, the shares were valued in the range of 75 sen apiece.
