KLSE OUTLOOK FOR 19-06-2017 (MONDAY): STEADY CLOSES ON U.S. EQUITY MARKETS SHOULD LIFT MALAYSIAN STOCKS HIGHER THIS WEEK. BY FRED TAM
Dear all,
The KLCI was a shade higher by 1.30 points or 0.07% to close at 1791.31. Losers beat gainers by 525 to 359 while 910 counters remain unchanged.
If one looks at the Dow to gauge Malaysian stocks direction, then Malaysian stocks should go up for the near term. Reasoning being all the U.S. stock indices made new highs except for the Nasdaq index.
U.S. market breadth as reflected by the cumulative advance-decline line also made new highs last week, indicating there is little reason to suspect that the U.S. indices have reached an important top.
But is our market following behind the U.S. equity markets?
Based on the KLCI’s close, it seems so although it is to a much lesser extent. We see a bullish KLCI as the market heads off into this week. We have another week before we break for the long Hari Raya holidays (which might attract profit-taking), but we may see a rally this week before profit-taking sets in.
As chartists we go with the flow of the market. For now we see selective index linked stocks capable of running. Details of “running” stocks are in our detailed newsletter. Small and mid cap stocks are also selectively bullish. Our TAD stocks are generally still bullish.
All the best for a great Monday and as always, good trading!
Best regards,
Fred Tam
