SIBU: Sarawak welcomes investments from within and outside the country to spur its economic activities.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem said the state being the largest in the country was a land with many opportunities and possibilities for investors.
“It is a state rich in natural resources, coupled with the business friendly state government that creates a conducive environment for trade and industry,” he said in a souvenir magazine message in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China cum 3rd founding anniversary of Sarawak Branch of the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (SBMCCC).
The chief minister was represented by Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh at the function on Saturday night.
Adenan said flying from Sarawak via Kuala Lumpur to any destination in China was just a matter of four to six hours.
He said each year, the Canton fair in Guangzhou attracted many Malaysian traders and business volume had increased year by year.
He said the strong bilateral trade in 2011 was valued at US$90bil and today China was the largest export market for Malaysia.
He hoped this bilateral relationship would continue to flourish.
“At this jubilant moment, I wish the celebration a great success and look forward to another four decades more of celebration.
Meanwhile, TAS Offshore Bhd managing director Datuk Lau Nai Hoh, SBMCCC first vice-president, said his company had business dealings with the subsidiary of CCCC Fourth Harbour China, Hoangtong Shipbuilding and Shipping Co Ltd.
He said the total amount of business transacted to-date had reached US$237.2mil or RM759mil.
“In view of the close and conducive business relationship between Malaysia and China, we foresee many other business opportunities are going to blossom among the parties concerned.
“Currently, the parties are in discussion for business deals worth about RM500mil,” Lau revealed.
