JOHOR BARU: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has been non-committal about becoming the next Yang di-Pertuan Agong despite being next in line for the position.
“I do not know yet,” he said, adding that he works well with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“We speak to each other often and sometimes when he asks for my views, I give them,” he said in a special interview.
Sultan Ibrahim said he was informed by the present King that they would be deciding on the matter in October.
“They will need to have a special meeting of the Conference of Rulers before choosing the new king,” he added.
When pressed further if he was going to take up the position, Sultan Ibrahim remained tight-lipped and just smiled.
The reign of Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong ends in January 2024.

Careplus executive director and group CEO Lim Kwee Shyan said the group has arranged for all of its 2,000 staff to undergo Covid-19 testing. He declined to disclose how many workers have tested positive, saying the information will be released by the relevant authorities. Lim said the operations at all its factories have been halted for two days, as they are all located at the same place. As a result, the group’s production capacities will be affected during this period, he said, adding he expects production to resume gradually over the next two weeks.
