NICE TO 'CU"
IS CU COMPARABLE TO FAMILY MART?
WILL CU BRING MYNEWS TO ANOTHER HEIGHT?
1) 570 MYNEWS OUTLETS.
MYNEWS currently operates 570 MYNEWS outlets in Malaysia.
2) KEY STRENGTHS INTEGRATED FOOD CHAIN, FPC & RTE PRODUCTS.
In FY19, MYNEWS completed a fully integrated Halal food supply chain and a Food Processing Centre (“FPC”) in Kota Damansara. Commercial production started in June 2019, rolling out ready-to-eat (RTE) meals and bakery products. Production is smooth.
3) ONLINE ORDERING, AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE NEW NORMAL.
MYNEWS caters for online orders. MYNEWS DASH was rolled out in late September 2019 with its first hub at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail outlet to cater for online orders for its RTE foods and other daily needs products.
4) DOUBLE DIGIT REVENUE GROWTH.
During FY19, except for print media, all other product categories recorded double digit growth in revenue.
5) GROWING LARGER, WHILST SEEING STRONG RTE POTENTIAL.
Management expects MYNEWS to grow larger and stronger with time, driven by MYNEWS’ higher store count, increase in number of Maru Kafe concept outlets and the effective utilization of the FPC. MYNEWS are still within gestation period of FPC’s roll out. Management expects earnings to improve when economies of scales are achieved. Management sees strong potential and contribution of RTE to the in-store sales in the long run, as proven by the convenience stores with the same concept in Thailand, Japan and Taiwan.
6) CU x MYNEWS.
On Oct 12, 2020, MYNEWS became the master franchisee of South Korean convenience store brand CU in Malaysia. CU is one of the leading convenient stores in South Korea, with more than 15,000 stores. Master franchisee agreement: a 10-year period, with a renewal option of an additional 10 years.
7) 1ST STORE WITHIN 2 MONTHS, 499 MORE WITHIN 5 YEARS.
MYNEWS targets to open the first CU store in 1Q21 and open a total number of 500 CU stores in the next 5 years. CU 'menu' here (https://klfoodie.com/cu-convenience-store-malaysia/) - Would Malaysians like it? Would it be comparable to FamilyMart?
8) LEVERAGING FPC.
CU’s fresh food will be manufactured at MYNEWS’ existing food processing center, improving its utilization rate, economy of scale and profitability.
9) CU PAYBACK PERIOD.
Estimated 2-3 years per CU store.
10) BUSINESS RISKS.
Management does not expect CU stores to contribute much line earnings in the near term due to gestational costs. Market competition may intensify. Competitors include Family Mart, 7-Eleven, MYNEWS, KK Mart and 99 Speedmart.
11) POSITIVE OPERATING CASHFLOWS DESPITE LOSS-MAKING.
MYNEWS had 2 loss making quarters due to MCO and CMCO. However, their net losses are partly due to items write-off and depreciation. Even during MCO and CMCO, MYNEWS still generated positive cash flow from operating activities.
12) ACQUIRING SHARES BETWEEN 56-62 SEN.
EPF and Aberdeen Asset Management has been acquiring MYNEWS shares aggressively from September to December 2020 between 56-65 sen.
Would CU bring MYNEWS to another height? Time will tell.

Investment in start-up companies bearing fruit. While MYEG has an extended track
record of investing in China-based augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and artificial
intelligence (AI) companies, we understand that HiScene, one of the companies that MYEG
invested is planning for potential listing on Shanghai Stock Exchange’s STAR Market this
year. There are some indications that MYEG’s stake in HiScene can be worth RM1b upon
listing, although MYEG intends to be a long-term investor. MYEG has also invested in
several related start-up companies such as Ximmerse, Jingle Magic, and DeepScience
Technology (details in overleaf table) earlier. These companies are recognised as some of
the fastest growing AR/VR/AI companies in China, and are backed by long lists of prominent
investors as well as venture capital firms. To add on, MYEG has also invested in a diverse
variety of local technology businesses including FashionValet, Agmo Studio, and Stampede
Solution.

Cushioned by resilient demand for MySafeTravel and foreign workers’ COVID-19 tests,
MYEG is poised to deliver significant qoq earnings lift. MYEG will also indirectly benefit
from the recently awarded NIISe project through its stake in S5 Systems. Meanwhile, a
likely extension of tax incentive status, potential approval to distribute saliva test kits in
Singapore and emerging mega gains from the funding of China technology start-ups
are forming strong catalysts for MYEG. Maintain BUY and target price of RM2.65.

KES MENANTU: 4 SOALAN PM KENA JAWAB.
Menantu PM didakwa dapat projek RM1.16 Bilion. Ia menjadi kontroversi. Integriti Kerajaan PN dipersoalkan.
Pertama, apakah benar menantu PM pemilik majoriti saham S5 System.
Kemudian Muhyiddin minta proposal baru “request for proposal” (RFP) pada tahun 2019.
