Wah insurers will pay, MAS just goyang kaki.
Malaysia Airline (MAS) won’t be burdened with escalating search and rescue costs for both flights MH370 and MH17 – as these have to be likely covered entirely by insurers up to US$2.25 billion (RM7.14 billion) in total.
This good news for the national carrier, as reported by the New York Times today, is due to the insurance policy inked by MAS – which has a high cap by industry standards “because the carrier operates big Airbus A380s, each configured for 494 passengers, and it wanted ample coverage”.

Yes, a lot of planes use the route as well before the tragedy of MH17 happened. Black cloud hangs over MAS. Even it was reported that Putin's plane flew over the area 30 minutes earlier.

Considering the Lockerbie's case, Libya was willing to pay $2.7 billion. What are the odds that Russia will do that?
2014-07-18 09:59 | Report Abuse
Putin's plane was a few minutes ahead of MH17, using the same route. Very bad luck. Could be Ukraine's missile too.

Minority shareholders want say in MAS revamp
By John Gilbert
Malaysian Airline System Bhd's (MAS) minority shareholders have demanded to be included in the loop of any plans to restructure the ailingnational carrier.
The shareholders, through the Minority Shareholders Watchdog Group (MSWG), said plans being considered by majority shareholder Khazanah Nasional Bhd should include other shareholders who have been longterm investors in the airline.

think it is also about politics, some UMNO ppl don't like Emir and Isa.
But I believe once Malaysia signs the Transpacific Partnership Agreement, FGV will benefit.

We should take into account dividend payments as well that push the price down.
Plantation stocks are for long term. FGV is also not about palm oil. It has sugar and rubber business as well.

Felda Global targets RM100bil sales
PETALING JAYA: The world’s largest palm oil producer Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) aims to grow its revenue to RM100bil in six years to become one of the Top 10 global agribusiness companies.
Group president and chief executive officer Mohd Emir Mavani Abdullah said FGV remained focused on its global strategic blueprint’s 2020 aspiration to achieve these targets.
He said its new organisational structure was lean yet scalable, and guarded by a robust governance and integrity framework tailored for future global growth.
“This transformation journey will be very rewarding for all of us because there is support from a dedicated, forward-looking and ambitious management team coupled with the implementation of group-wide transformation initiatives,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He added that these initiatives were structured to increase its revenue eight-fold in six years.
FGV has now been restructured into six clusters: oil palm upstream, oil palm downstream, sugar, rubber, research and development, as well as TLMO (transport, logistics, marketing and others).
Each cluster has its own strategic initiatives to achieve its targets by 2020, with the oil palm upstream cluster aiming to retain its global leadership in plantations by being the largest crude palm oil producer and holding the largest land bank.
Its downstream cluster aims to capture higher margins and high-growth products in the speciality ingredients segment to become amongst the world’s Top Three players in industrial fats, and achieve regional heavyweight status in palm-based consumer goods.
Its sugar cluster aims to be one of the top global companies in the refined sugar business with a production volume of four million tonnes by 2020, while the newly-formed rubber cluster is focusing on becoming a leading integrated rubber player commanding the third-highest global sales in processed rubber.
“Across the group, there is a strong belief that this transformation journey will lead to success and we are confident of achieving our goals,” he said.
