HYFLUX doesn't say they will default la, they just will reorganize liabilities only. market over react.

Tuaspring, which is the first integrated water and power project in Asia, has been affected by the impact of the depressed electricity prices in Singapore, according to Hyflux's executive chairman and group CEO Olivia Lum in her letter to shareholders on May 22, and has contributed to the first full year of operating losses in 2017.

In her letter, she said that by taking a step back to "assess holistically how to reorganise the liabilities", the group stands to protect the viability of its core businesses and position itself for long-term sustainable growth.

Come on guys, the whole term loan to Hyflux is Rm 2.1 bil, whereas Maybank's entire financing is close to RM 400 bil, this is just a drop in the ocean.

Maybank also regularly provisions for around RM 2 bil loan loss every year, so honestly speaking this will not impact much the bottom line. Instead look at the long term prospects of its fintech innovation (GrabPay collaboration) and believe in the country's 5.4% GDP growth.

"We assume that most or all of Maybank’s exposure is secured by the Tuaspring project or related cash-flow receivables, or both. This should mitigate losses for Maybank in a worst-case scenario where Hyflux goes into bankruptcy," the analysts said.

Maybank’s Singapore branch had provided an 18-year S$720 million financing facility to Hyflux’s Tuaspring project in 2013. Moody’s Investors Service, however, said in a statement last Friday that the potential losses to Maybank should be limited as it believes the bank’s exposure has decreased since 2013 because of loan amortisation.

Q1 is always the weaker quarter of the 4 for Maybank - cyclical within the business, look at the past 4 years. Never compare Q on Q, but Y on Y instead.

Wow, the price now is too attractive already. Dividend yield 5.3% at this stage. Highest among all banks. And their Maybank2u app is the best and most convenient. No wonder fee based income increased. Gonna buy on Wednesday to build some more passive income. Will definitely rise higher when the PH government clears up our economy.
