Have you heard of 'Mr. Market'?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Market

Now Mr. Market is in a 'pessimistic mood' and offers low sale price. The investor has the option to buy at that low price.

sbsoo, you are right. They are fixing the 5 day average price for the purpose of DRP. This drop always happens before DRP. Won't be surprised if DRP will be at RM 9.00. Maybank should be back to 10 after the price fixing, most probably by tomorrow.

wm83, your c2 ex price is 10.50, its difficult to foresee Maybank at 10.50 unless aggressive buying by foreign institutions like in June to August last year.
sbsoo, the drp of 9.20 was when Maybank was at average price of 9.90. DRPs are usually at a discount of 8 to 10% of 5 day weighted volume average. The previous drp was at 8.80 when 5 day average was at 9.60.

invest in maybank share is a very long term game, if u ready, jz jump in. i like maybank share because although a big drop in the market, maybank is still steady. price now i will say "fair", maybank wont jump high as it will soar the klci tremendously. someone just trying to hold still the KLCI index.

sbsoo11. thanks for your opinion.. maybank's price is consider low for me now.. will jump in when necessary

here is the 7th DRP issued on sep last year, discount is 5%, not as you mentioned 8- 10% la:
Issue Price

Issue price: RM9.20 per new Maybank Share
Price Fixing Date: 10 September 2013
The issue price of RM9.20 is based on the five-day VWAMP (Volume Weighted Average Market Price) of RM9.95 per Maybank Share up to and including 10 September 2013, being the last trading day prior to the Price Fixing Date for the issue of new Maybank Shares after adjusting for the following:

a dividend adjustment of 22.5 sen to the five (5)-day VWAMP (“Ex-Dividend VWAMP”); and
a discount of RM0.525 which is approximately 5.40% discount to the Ex-Dividend VWAMP of RM9.725.

sbsoo111. I was curious about the info that you had provided above..everytime maybank gave dividend.. is it worth for the maybank to buyback our dividend amount and investing it into shares of maybank? or is it worth to sell the shares before the ex dividend date as you know the shares will shoot up by a bit..

if my calculation is not wrong.. reinvest the dividend into maybank shares has a higher profit margin..

my perspective of investing in maybank just because i believe no other business is better than banking, every cash flow cooperate done have to go to bank first. but in case crisis come, that will be another business.

invest in drp have to depend how much share you have. if you have lesser, you will actually paying less on the cost of your subscription. if u have little bit more, you can have slightly 1 or 2 sen higher actual dividend on the price issue variance with the market price. but if u are big fish, more game can be play. eg. they can just sell off in the market like right now, once drp price announced. the share gain back from their new issue.

maybank share is steady and controlled by the big player. it is a steady counter that roe can be 15%

do calculate on your own paper you should know what im talking

sbsoo, 5.4% is after taking the dividend into account. Average price of 9.95, drp is 9.20, what is the %? So if the present price is 9.51, dividend is 31sen, its 9.20 before discount. Would drp still be 9.20? I have been collecting drp from the first back in 2010. BTW, they are allowed to give up to 10% discount for drps.

As a long term investor in Maybank, I would like to see the price drop, as it would give me more shares from the DRP. Dividend is paid based on EPS and not market price of Maybank, so with consistent dividend payout of 70% eps, cheaper share price will enable me to subscribe to more shares in the DRP.

the down side of drp is dilution. maybank/cimb/rhb/mbsb should consider stop drp as they have met capital compliancy. juz look at non-glc bank/finance, their share price appreciation is far better than what drp can offer.

ya... compare with other counter in bank sector, mbb give highest dividend. consider you are not interested with cash dividend, but change your mind, 30 shares give 1 bonus shares. consider good? thus hold longer term consider benefit

Hi all, I notice that the dividend is 31 cents but I could not find the ex date? Is this dividend just a proposal n pending approval? And how do I subscribed to DRP ? (I buy share using public bank trading platform)

Govin, with the expiry of Maybank CZ, OSK will depress the price to reduce cash settlement.
freecooper, AGM on 7 Apr, dividend is proposal but will usually be approved.
sbsoo, main reason for huge drp is the 27sen dividend that may be converted under drp. Previously its been mostly below 20sen.

that's the problem. the situation make maybank become less attractive on each time new drp issue. the drp only benefiting the existing/old shareholder. but for new investor, they will not interest on maybank because the new share will dilute the ROI of mbb. dont u think so?

imagine a share less attractive, what will happens?

Posted by Beginner1989 > 2014-03-14 14:55 | Report Abuse

this round of drop is from 4 reason, as you already know, drp will dilute the attractiveness of the share. 2nd, etiqa is the main insurer for mh370. (i hope mbb is not the insurer for the plane body). 3rd, global issue - such as interest hike, emergen currency drop (indo rupiah now in the lowest 3500 - 1RM). 4th- u all selling!

Guys, Etiqa is the main insurer but the risk is heavily placed with other insurance co locally and internationally. The concept of sharing the risk to ensure the company would be able to sustain any losses and minimise their exposure..

Posted by Beginner1989 > 2014-03-15 10:41 | Report Abuse

sbsoo111. If you really understand. Even though Etiqa is the main insurer but there is a lot of followers (insurers and reinsurers, local and international) sharing the risks together. people just think about the leader but never know / forgot they had split the risks all over.. that is the purpose of an insurance and the concept of sharing the risks to sustain any losses in order stay solvent.. mh370 is just a loss. insurers and reinsurers face multiple losses every year. After all these news. I believe Maybank and Etiqa would rise again. nevertheless, it is just a loss anyway. People just focus on the leader and forgot the concept of an insurance.

wm83, c2 is a call warrant, not a company warrant issued by Maybank. You cannot convert c2 into Maybank shares. Get someone to teach you about call warrants before you even think of touching them.

sbsoo, from the time dividend is declared until X date, there is plenty of time for new investors to jump in and enjoy the DRP. As for dilution of shares, if you remember last year, Maybank had to put out private placement of 300Mil shares to comply with Tier 3 banking rules or something like that. Rather than making a call for right issues or private placements to comply with banking laws, the company is rewarding its loyal investors with DRP.
As a matter of fact CIMB has copied MBB in DRP for the last dividend, so has MBSB.
