Huang, like what Firebird said, any regrets, sell and move to more exciting counters. I too, diversified and bought into growth as well as speculative counters and warrants purely for capital gains and some excitement.
Bottom line if you are not losing money in the market, you are already winning.

apprentice, I wouldn't dare say sell and move to more exciting counters to Huang. I related my experience, but Huang is a experience and knowledgeable person so I guess he knows better. He already made tons when he bought Maybank and at that time, Maybank went down to Rm3 - Rm3.50 during the BII issue. Theres the catch there that no one ask. Hope you accept my explanation. Thx

"if you are not losing money in the market, you are already winning"

Ha! Ha! I like this one a lot. It is a very great consolation words. Thank you very much.

I choose to hold tight to Blue Chips as I believe they are much more reliable when big bear massacre. “Begin with the End in Mind”.

FireBird2 : Ai yoh.... you have looked me too high up lah. For the past years, I bought quite a lot of MBB at difference times but unluckily not any at lower than 7.80. I made small profit from MBB with the highest return at 14%. That was why I concluded that MBB would not give exciting capital gain even for long term investment except if you are very lucky to enter at very low prices in 2008-09. Unfortunately I have never had that luck loh.

Neverthelesss, I feel very “shiok” as there is somebody looking me up. I owe you one coffee. Thank you very much.

Firebird, hahaha, I get what you mean. Yes, those who bought into MBB then is laughing all the way to Maybank. Such 'golden' opportunity comes but once in a lifetime. And until today I too, am still smiling.

Yes Huang, those who bought blue chips like PBB, Genting, Dutchlady, Nestle just to name a few, have made their fortune. Now we look for equals to make ours.

That saying is not mine. It Warren Buffet's.

Huang, I understand your preference for safety and I am sure there are others that you made tons haha. One never knows when suddenly safety pays right? If not, you wouldn't have done that. For you and me, we know when to strike, when to get ourselves within striking range and when evacuation plans are a absolute necessity. Still my respect for you and that you are in control of what you want.
Ok huang, I will take a rain cheque for the coffee LOL. Thank you.

apprentice, today I make some friends, Huang and you. I guess I read wrongly, it was you rather that took the opportunity to buy at such low unimaginable price of Maybank, today, I think you can even laugh out loud during your sleep.
Hope you can join us, to chat more and together with huang, post more, they are interesting to me. We roll out one more red carpet for you too, thx

Hi Firebird2 and apprentice : the main point to share is “Begin with the End in Mind”. What is your view on this phrase ?

Prepare for eventualities, or the end game that we may think it will be. We may have different ways to say it, but I do know what you mean.

Hi Firebird2 and apprentice: very inspiring sharing from both of you, thank you very much. My meaning of “END” here is the end of BULL market lah.

I always think if tomorrow is the end of Bull, what disaster will my portfolio be ?

I also ponder three times when thinking of switching my Blue Chips to the more exciting counters.

Huang, you have lived through many 'ends' think you know best.
From long ago my guess is that you have also done gradual shifting or changing some of your counters to better ones, same now too, which you are thinking of.
We all do the same too. I wont say mine is forever as I do make minor adjustment every now and then

I went through few bulls and bears. Was hit by Asian crisis due to dwellings in 2nd board counters. Took away some valuable lessons.
Put more into stable counters, buy when everyone is afraid and the gain are many folds. Did just that in 2009/10.

Hi Huang, nice meeting you here too.
you did a very details calculation.
1. I use the same calculation method except I did not take in the processing cost incurred as you did. i just do a very rough calculation to conclude than extra gain is less than 0.5%.

2. The dividend on other hand, cannot 100% conclude as % of return because the share price will be adjusted after the ex-date, it is our cash out money if share price does not goes up to before ex-date price. [Then, it comes back to capital gain matter. If not capital gain, dividend is not "dividend" anymore].

This is my viewpoint:)

Hi Huang & apprentice,
For long term stable investment, my 1st pick is oil palm plantation counter.

1. Usually a company making money by providing products/services. Oil palm company provides crude oil, refinery service, down stream bio related products...

2. Additional return from oil palm company is its land. Land's value will appreciate automatically when time goes on, it's like a by-product and will grow with time.

Just for sharing only.

EPF has been buying and selling Maybank shares over the past few years. From about end of May 2013 to around mid March this year, EPF had accumulated over 380 million Maybank shares, but has sold about 70 million since then. Maybank should breach the RM 10 barrier tomorrow as there are other institutions picking up this counter.

As read all the conversation of all of you. The share price will hit the highest before the ex-date. I am thinking should we sell it before the ex-date. The dividend will be deducted from the share price and 25% of the dividend will be given as tax. If we sell it before ex-date and we can keep all the money instead of giving the date. Is this correct?

Posted by Beginner1989 > 2014-04-22 09:55 | Report Abuse

Too many road blocks.. Guys please clear it so that it would shoot to 10.1 - 10.5

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2014-04-22 10:04 | Report Abuse

ty77, I don't understand what you mean by 25% of the dividend will be given as tax. All dividend is tax free starting this year.

prudentinvestor: tax free for dividend? if yes, really nice leh.. do u have any link about it??

Posted by RiskySusie > 2014-04-22 15:23 | Report Abuse

In this world nothing is free. The company will deduct the tax first before announcing the dividend from the remainder.

I think they will continue to block at 10.00 so that people will sell below this price and at the back they are collecting at cheaper price?

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2014-04-22 18:43 | Report Abuse

Starting this year, all companies can only declare single tier(net) dividend and you don't have to declare your dividend income to the IRD. You can find this out from dividend payment announcements.
