I checked thru historical price trend of Maybank for the last 15 years, MBB was rarely traded below 8.00. The one worst time was in 2009 with price traded much lower than 8 when Maybank bought Indo bank with very high premium couples with subprime crisis in US. So I do not worry Maybank drops below 8, even so, it will rebound very soon unless historical trend break down.

To be frank, it may drops slightly below 8 in short term, but its current dividend yield(550/8300=6.6%) is too attractive to ignore, therefore I have grabbed in many lots. More fund has been stand by for more purchase if it drops further.

If I buy now a unit of single storey house in second tier town, it would cost me about RM183K. Then I rent out the house, rental would be the most at RM500/month without hazard if I am very lucky to have a good tenant.

Alternatively, I can buy 22 lots of Maybank at RM183K with monthly yield(rental) =22x550/12months=RM1000/month which doubles the amount of rental from a house with same amount of investment capital. With this reason, I bought in many Maybank without hesitation.

My money works for me with passive income RM1000/month. Very nice.

your calculation is right but just a few typo on the illustration. It is 220 lots and 55 sen. (220 x 100 x 0.55)/12.

Just one dumb question, i dare to put in 100k into property purchase, but i a bit hesitate to put over 100k into a single stock. Maybe I am still new in share market. Any comment? Is it common to have over 100k in a single stock?

if you buying Maybank share for 100k today you will get a return of yearly dividend 6.7%. If you buy a property for 100k today can you get a yearly rental return of 6.7%?. Maybe you are ending pay interest than getting your return. Moreover now is the best time to buy Maybank share because of bear market. I had waited for 3 year to get a return of more than 6.5% return (better than EPF 6.3%). Just bought 150 lot at RM 8.52 on Thursday. Will buy more next week.

For your information. EPF bought 15 million unit of Maybank share last week. There give us 6.0-6.3% dividend but there earn 6.7% dividend with a earning of 0.4% just do your calculation on the volume.

Nine banks agree to pay US$2 billion to settle forex rigging suit
Publish date: Fri, 14 Aug 2015, 08:25 PM
NEW YORK: Nine major banks accused of foreign-exchange rigging have agreed to pay more than US$2 billion to investors in settlements, a law firm involved in the process said Thursday.

Plaintiffs have "reached settlements totalling more than US$2 billion with Bank of America, Barclays, BNP Paribas, Citi, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, JPMorgan, RBS and UBS," legal firm Hausfeld said in a statement published after a hearing in New York.

Hausfeld, which represented investors, gave no indication how the sum would be divided between the banks and said that the agreements were preliminary and must still be approved by US District Judge Lorna Schofield.

In June, sources close to the situation reported that Barclays would pay US$375 million, HSBC US$285 million, BNP Paribas nearly US$100 million and Goldman Sachs about US$130 million. But they also specified that the amounts were subject to change.

None of the banks responded immediately when contacted by AFP.

Some of the banks in Thursday's announcement had already agreed to specific sums.

US banking giant JPMorgan Chase agreed to pay US$99.5 million in January, followed by Bank of America at US$180 million, Citigroup at US$394 million and Swiss UBS at US$135 million.

"In addition to the billions of dollars in compensation, these settling banks have agreed to cooperate with investors in their continuing litigation" against other institutions, Hausfeld said.

Thursday's agreements are distinct from proceedings led by US and British regulators, which in May ordered US$6 billion in fines on six major banks - Barclays, JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, Royal Bank of Scotland, UBS and Bank of America - for rigging foreign exchange market and Libor interest rates.

Barclays, JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup and the Royal Bank of Scotland all pleaded guilty to US Justice Department charges of conspiring to manipulate the massive currency market.

"While the recoveries here are tremendous, they are just the beginning," said Hausfeld chairman Michael Hausfeld.

"Investors around the world should take note of the significant recoveries secured in the United States and recognize that these settlements cover a fraction of the world's largest financial market," he said.

The firm also noted that it was considering "concerted action" in London. -- AFP

If im not mistaken since it was listed maybank, twice the shares was split. The lowest after split 4.40 thats why it cant break 14 anymore like those years. Theorically the best entry point will be 1.25 times of its NTA RM 5.92 if im not mistaken which will give us about RM 7.40. It will rise after next locked in period by PNB for one of its fund end of Aug or Early September. Therefore, any trading between RM 7.40 to 8.29 is actually a good trading buy. However, im purely believe its hard to break 8. As once it break 8, market will shaky as Maybank is the benchmark.

As long interest rate hike is an agenda, Ringgit will be depreciating ... Only after actual implementation we may see the effect. I am still eyeing 4.30 within this year. Well maybe Maybank is a good stock rite , then why not accumulate at every 20% decline ..

Posted by trudychen > 2015-08-17 13:37 | Report Abuse

Equityenginner - how did you analyse 4.30? for maybank? I am interested to know. I have put in a buy at 8.18 - do you think unwise at this stage?

Sorry if I am not clear , I was mentioning on USd to MYR ..be careful with Maybank tough . Why not consider Maybank going below 8.00 then start buying and for each 20% drop keep buying ..well just my strategy for divided base counters ..

I bought the right issue at $2+ 6000 shares I think in 1998. The only right thing I did in investing and sold at 8.72. Not enough to cover my 100k paper lost I am sitting on now:) not from buying maybank shares. Still I feel the price drop is good so that I can buy more at a good price.

Not to spook anyone but I am betting KLCI might touch 1550 in near term...and if its bad enough, 1500.
Why?
1. Depreciation of RM, making imports much more expensive. Foreign selling RM bonds.
2. China economy shrinking, thus, government devalue yuen (3rd time now)sparking a currency war to boost its export. Many companies are selling goods to China, but with yuen decreasing, china will lose its buying power.
3. Shanghai index volatility. drop 5% today buy government backing bring it up to 2% increase.
4. Oil price hovering at 6 years low and expected to trend lower. Malaysia is primarily a O&G country, PETRONAS contribute RM8 bil as tax to government yearly. This time, we are seeing only RM4 bil (USD100 per barrel becomes USD45 per barrel). Blue chips counters in O&G will weight
5. Political instability.
6. Commodities are trading low prices. Copper, oil, due to devalue of Yuen, making China buying power to decrease.

All the best guys !

Kakashi thanks for your inputs. How to play Maybank? Just check previous track record from 9.00 to 9.60 or 9.70..same goes here. 8.00 to 8.80 or 8.90.. it will take sometimes for Maybank to break 8.00. By right theorically 1.25 times its NTA which will give us about RM 7.40 and as we are aware once create new low, it will bounce. Furthermore, Maybank is too huge too fail as its created since the early days from a golden share for the creation of 'National Agenda' and since then bonus issue etc etc. If similar 140-trading days is followed from the peak 1,867, and Maybank is targeted to be traded for 7-8, thats mean, we still have relatively 2mths to wait. However, for this year, a lot of 'surprises'. If the same drama is repeated, we might see "24-48 hours" drama regarding INTEREST RATES. Please also take note about OUR BNM MONETARY POLICY DATE IS EARLIER THAN FOMC MEETING IN SEPTEMBER. As MAYBANK STOCK IS BANKING STOCK, if you are trader, BE CAREFUL. If you are long term investor and has hard cash to invest , x have any problem to average if this stock create new lowest. Its a trend nowadays all the banks are issuing RIGHT ISSUE. Plus, going forward Basel Accord Full Compliance by 2019 if im not mistaken will be the GAME CHANGER for all local banks. As we are BUYING FOR FUTURE, FUTURE EARNINGS FOR THIS STOCKS? FUTURE GROWTH FOR THIS STOCKS ? ON TOP OF ALL FUTURE DIRECTION OF TOP MANAGEMENT OF MAYBANK?. So all the best to us. As long as MALAYS AS LARGE COMMUNITIES IN THIS COUNTRY KEEP SUPPORTED THE PNB BY SUBCRIBING ASB LOAN ..AND NOT DEFAULT..THIS STOCK IS OK. AS LONG AS PNB DIRECTION IS ALSO CLEAR, THIS STOCK WILL BE OK. :)..I AM ALWAYS BELIEVE DURING BAD TIMES, ITS ALL DEPENDS ON THE BIG SHAREHOLDERS. OR THE TAIKO. AS THEY ARE THE CONTROLLER AND DECIDER TO TAKE CHARGE OR DICTATE THE SHARE MOVEMENT ESPECIALLY WE ARE 'CAPITAL CLOSED MONOPOLY ECONOMIES'. :)

Apanama, thanks for the meaningful reply.
I have to admit I did not analyse banking stocks. Mainly tech and property and some industrial stocks. So, I cant really comment,
Technical point of view, 8.50 is a support, breaking that will most likely send it down to 8.0 and then 7.6
NTA is about 5.96, coincides with its strong support at 6.0 (but I don't think we are going there)
PE is about 12. PE for PBB is 15 while CIMB is 13. So its average among its peers.
If PE drop to 10, the price is about 7.4, which, if you look at it, another support.
If I am not wrong, near term should see 7.5-8 range bound but truly, that is only base on my very limited analysis..
Cheers ~~
