wah very close to mine

my cost price is 6.16

i bought Orient many years ago, sometime around 2014 i think at 5++, sold within a year at 9++

3iii said orient is a value trap. i dont mind waiting 10 or 20 years for value to emerge. coz i know Orient is worth more than RM15.

Sometime no need to think too much. Just dumb dumb hold

To be honest my stake not big so I don't mind if it is not very sexy

abeerdeen dumped their shares as they ran out of patience. end of day fund managers have to correct their underperformance. they cant afford to be like us, holding 10 or 20 years. orient, in terms of share price, has been trading within a tight range for years.

While Oriental cash and equivalent is approximately 4.4 billion, it does have borrowing, short- and long-term, totalling 1.9 billion. So, Oriental's net cash and equivalent is only 2.5 billion, still a very sizeable number, that's equivalent to approximately 4.00 per share!

oriental is one big lazy dinasaur. but with annual dividend of 40sen, you are getting above 6% yield. defensive stock for one's portfolio.

yangxi, that's why I am asking, cause it used to be 0.06 with another 0.06 payable early next year, followed by another 0.28 final dividend (well, not used to, but for 2 years, much less before this). If the trend is what it is, we would be looking at more than 0.40 dividend for FY19 then. Sigh, forgot about the AGM and didn't attend this year, would have better idea had I attended...

i bought some at RM6.47 - keeping for long term

Posted by meerkat0078 > 2019-12-22 11:31 | Report Abuse

Can buy and keep - they do have palm oil plantations in Indonesia as well. If CPO price has increased, their results should be better for the next Q.

Aberdeen is still selling. perhaps partly explain why the share price hardly move

actually, the company can create more value to shareholders. their net cash position is 60% of market cap

they should initiate some buy back, increase dividends or even seek acquisitions with such big hoards of cash

Why Aberdeen is selling if it is good stock? Or they know any hidden bad news?

drakoryn

they have been selling for the last 3 years, think no bad news, just became impatient

Posted by Fabien "The Efficient Capital Allocater" > 2020-01-13 16:49 | Report Abuse

funds cannot afford to be patient. they can't afford to have capital lock in for years while stock is not performing and the fund is underperforming relative to its benchmark

there is no catalyst in sight. no value creation situation to unlock the value

as a retailer, we can afford to have bit more patience. the way i see it, it's yield of 6% at 6.50 is attractive enough. my capital is not earning nothing. it's better than FD but of course one has to decide the risk reward situation relative to your appetite

my view is that the net cash of 60% should give a cushion to downside risk

take care of downside, and let upside take care by itself

To my understanding, Aberdeen is selling because investors are pulling funds out of Aberdeen, causing them to sell for their redemption. Puzzling as to why EPF is selling though, my best guess would be a need to declare 'profit' by selling what's profitable yet not very promising, in this case, Oriental.
