PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 3,731 new Covid-19 cases with Selangor contributing 1,606 cases or 43% of them.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 3,369 patients were discharged yesterday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 190,339.
Cumulatively, the country’s total number of cases since the outbreak began stood at 242,452.
There were also 15 new fatalities, pushing the death toll to 872.
Currently, 292 people were being treated at intensive care units with 140 of them requiring ventilator support.
Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor still has the highest cases, followed by Johor (499), Kuala Lumpur (372), Melaka (313), Penang (250), Sarawak (219) and Sabah (160).
He said seven new Covid-19 clusters have been detected in Selangor, Johor, Sarawak and Perak.
“In Selangor, the two clusters are the Lembah Selatan construction site and Jalan Bagan while in Johor, the Gangsa Dua cluster was detected. All three are workplace clusters.
“The two community clusters were Seruas in Sarawak and Taman Segar in Perak, ” he said.
A religious cluster, known as Lorong Mawar, was detected in Perak while a high risk group cluster has been identified in Ampang Campuran in Selangor.
Dr Noor Hisham also said seven existing clusters have ended.
These are the Pintu Geng, Ehsan Ibol, Persiaran Heights, Langkasuka, Wawasan, Jalan BBN and Texmile clusters.
“A total of 81 clusters reported new cases with Serkam Industry cluster recording the most at 246 cases, others being the Salak Tinggi Warehouse cluster (127) and Lembah Selatan construction site cluster (99), ” he said.
Dr Noor Hisham said 43 cases were linked to lockups: Tembok Sungai Udang cluster (18 cases), Tembok Taiping (nine), Tembok Renggam (seven), Jalan Harapan Prison (five), Seberang Perai Prison (three) and Tembok Mempaga (one).
