GEORGE TOWN: Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has been told to end discrimination against vernacular schools in the country allegedly by the previous government in terms of unfair funding of development allocation, which is not in accordance with the student population.
This was among three resolutions passed by the DAP Bagan Parliamentary Liaison Committee (PLC) during its recent annual general meeting (AGM).
DAP Bagan PLC coordinator Lim Guan Eng said development funding for vernacular schools could not be less than the reduced funding given by the previous Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.
"It must at least be equal to that given by the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government in 2018. As such, we called on Fadhlina to end any form of discrimination against vernacular schools," he said.
The national DAP chairman also urged the minister, who is also the Nibong Tebal member of Parliament, to increase development funding allocation for all schools in the state.
He said this was to make up for the past neglect by the previous government due to unexplained reasons.
"Similarly, we also urged Fadhlina to speedily overcome the shortage of teachers in Bahasa Malaysia, English along with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and Mandarin subjects in all schools in the state," he said.
