KUALA LUMPUR: The RM320mil designated in Budget 2025 for enhancing internet connectivity is set to elevate the effectiveness of education institutions and overall quality of life, says the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

The Commission expressed its dedication to fulfilling the government's vision of widespread, high-quality internet services for the populace's welfare.

"With the budget announcement, RM120mil is allocated to bolster internet coverage in public higher education institutions.

This funding is poised to foster improved learning environments, enabling students to engage more productively in their studies," the MCMC said on Saturday (Oct 19).

Regarding the RM100mil for the Fixed Line Broadband Infrastructure Connectivity Programme dedicated to rural schools, the MCMC said it will significantly improve internet access in these areas.

The Commission then added that it embraces the RM100mil set aside to enhance the National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) across Malaysia over the next five years.

"This investment is anticipated to aid individuals in boosting their income via online business ventures, which will contribute to the digital economy's expansion.

"The forthcoming announcement of the second 5G network is expected to reinforce local industries' competitiveness, equipping them to vie at elevated levels," added the MCMC.
