I wonder why do people go into cash when their portfolio is < RM 2 million. With a mini portfolio like that, one could easily trade in and out of the stock anytime unless the counter itself has low liquidity.

Thanks for the insightful post. There aren't many top-down investors here in KLSE. Most are bottom-up speculators. It's definitely refreshing to see your post here.

It is funny to see self-proclaimed long term investor in Padini reading the comment section here everyday. Isnt this a little bit contradicting??

To the hopeful investors in Padini, do enjoy the ride. In the near term, this counter has a few obstacles to cross before it can reach new high. First, the selling by Islamic funds has to stop. Second, for the next quarter, Padini has to show earning surprises to excite the big operators. Third, the upcoming GST next year is a huge impetus against the rise of retail stocks. Well, I am no economist but as a consumer myself, low and middle class spenders will feel the greatest pinch from the new tax regimen. And GST can be bearish for all retail stocks in general in the medium term (2 years down).

So, what is left in Padini? The only thing which will attract the market's attention now is the 5%+ dividend yield. I could foresee a dividend fund coming in provided that the index continue to rise. And also, do not rule out the potential rise in interest rates in our country. 0.25% may not sound much but you cant rule it out completely either. I expect Padini to challenge 1.70 in the near term.

I am pretty uncertain about the numbers posted by the company man. At Jtiasa, the cost to sales of their timber business is about 80%. Using the first quarter results, Gpharos has a cost to sales ratio of 40%. How is that possible when Jtiasa has a bigger economy of scale. To me, this is one speculative counter where fundamentals may not matter. But anyhow, thanks for the insightful posting. I am avoiding this counter but I wish I am wrong on Gpharos though.

Hello all. I just glanced through the comments here and I saw a lot of confused investors. But luckily, I am free enough to give all of you a guiding light. Padini, in recent years, have become a dividend play. (Does BAT/JTINTER ring a bell?) Do not expect this counter to shoot up in a short period.

I second lee's comment. I do wish to add one issue into the proposed publication of articles - buying a house in the Klang valley.

In my opinion, I think Mr Koon's take on the current property market is an important piece of puzzle to the conundrum of owning a house in this region. The mainstream media have published articles that are incredibly one-sided and extreme..For example, how raw materials will go up, how GST will cause the rise of house prices, how Malaysian demographics will contribute demand and how the latest infrastructure development will lead to price appreciation. From time to time, we do have notable figures coming into the mainstream media limelight to comment about the property market. However, most of these people have their interests tightly held in the proeprty market. The way I see it I think there is a serious conspiracy among the industry players especially the developers and speculators to pump up prices of properties in the country. I do admit sometimes, we may see one or two articles in the newspaper arguing against the rise of house prices in Malaysia. But those articles are more narrative of the uncertainty surrounding the future property market than conclusive about whether the property market is overheated.

As we all know, Mr. Koon might not be an accountant. But your vast expertise and experience in the property industry will provide important insights to whether owning a home in Klang valley is worthwhile in the current climate. Afterall, you are an individual who had consumed more salt than the younger generation consumed rice according to a chinese saying. The younger generation have not witnessed a substantial correction in property prices. Every decision made in buying the first home is important because an investment in house is a lifelong decision. In the stock market, if we are wrong, we could easily get out. But in the property market, if we are wrong, there are no way to run except facing imminent foreclosures.

I hope Mr. Koon, you could tell us your take on this topic and I believe this will benefit many many young adults in the country.

Just a word of caution. Many news have already been discounted into the share price. Inari may appear cheap due to its P/E but such thing can turn very fast. At the point of writing, Inari's price is RM 2.53. Eventhough I am still holding, I am looking to unload everything upon confirmation of a listing. Good luck!

The expatriate CEO of daya offshore construction is suing his own company for breach of shareholder's agreement. I am scratching my head. I am afraid this Mark Midgley guy is a goner. He can leave the company as far as I am concerned. What is important is the contract from Technip stays and Dato Mahzlin will laugh all the way to the bank with his fistful of norwegian krone. Yes, the price is depressed but it is caused by the big fish trying to shake out the small fries. Believe me, the Norway sovereign fund will be accumulating at this price. The quarterly loss will be an one off event. The order book from Technip stays, brah! My personal TP RM 0.60.

If The Star was correct, the current price of 0.335 is lower than the Norway fund entry of RM 0.365. To put where my mouth is, I have bought 800 lots at an average price of 0.345. I believe the Norway fund will start to accumulate now.

Contra players will sell this counter tomorrow if there is not much movement today. At RM 1.75, this counter is a bargain. I wish to disclose I have bought some at this price. In my opinion, this counter will move slow and will only go up if there are foreign funds buying.

I have cut my loss today on this counter. After this fiasco, the management has loss all its credibility in my eyes. I will tell you why.

1) Norway fund involvement
- There is nothing much to be said about this except it is a complete lie. The norway fund was never invested in Daya in the first place. This is an unconfirmed rumour spread by people trying to pump the stock price. The Norway fund would not even bat an eye on this counter had they know the poor execution of the management.

2) Director's buying and selling
- Let's say this cost overrun thing is a one-off event. Then Daya would be a good buy at this price 0.375. But come on, do you guys still trust the management after their shenanigans in the last few weeks? I blame myself for not spotting the hidden ploy behind the transfer of shares by one of the director to his brother at no cost! The wonderful annual report of Daya made me forgot that there is no free lunch in the world. When the shares are transferred to a minor party, in this case, his f***ing brother, we all know where those shares end up. I will leave this to your imagination. No matter how wonderful this company is. Do not ever trade this counter based on the fundamentals. Trade off the price movement. This is a small cap that has zero corporate governance.

And not to forget about this interview dated 21/12/2013.

http://www.thestar.com.my/Business/Business-News/2013/12/21/Transforming-Daya-into-a-heavyweight.aspx/

I believe the cost overrun should have been known at that time by the management of the company. Read through the words. I must say this guy is a shrewd businessman. Being able to remain calm and talk cock despite the ship is sinking. Well done. I clap for him.
