“The resultant lower theoretical ex-bonus Harn Len share prices as compared to the existing Harn Len share prices before the proposed bonus issue of shares may provide an avenue for shareholders to participate in Harn Len shares at a lower price point,” Harn Len said.

The proposed bonus issue is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2022.

Harn Len Corp Bhd’s shareholders have approved its eight-for-five bonus issue of 399.24 million shares at the extraordinary general meeting (EGM) today.

“The proposed bonus issue of shares serves to reward existing shareholders for their loyalty and continued support to Harn Len group.

“The board had taken into consideration that the proposed bonus issue of shares will enable shareholders to increase the number of Shares held with no cash outlay required, while retaining their percentage of equity interest held,” Harn Len said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.

"On one hand, companies in the consumer space enjoyed brisk demand as the pandemic tailed off and life returned to normalcy, while oil and gas players were buoyed by increased activity levels.

"On the other hand, high inflation reverberated across the economy, hurting companies with weak pricing power,” it said in a note today.

It has lowered its CY22 forecast FBM KLCI earnings contraction projection slightly to -9.1 per cent (from -9.3 per cent) while moderating the CY23 forecast growth to 10.1 per cent (from 11.4 per cent), largely to reflect weaker plantation earnings, and maintained its end-2022 FBM KLCI target of 1,500 points.

Believing that the unity government will be supportive of domestic consumption, Kenanga Research has advised investors to seek refuge in domestically-driven sectors including banks, telcos, automakers/distributors, mid-market retailers and construction, amidst rising external headwinds.

The research house holds the view that under the new "unity” government based on the power-sharing model, the prevailing policy inclinations are likely to remain at least over the immediate term.

China held a news conference on COVID prevention and control measures at 3 p.m. (0700 GMT) on Tuesday amid record COVID infections and protests in Shanghai and Beijing.

Asian shares also rallied as unsubstantiated rumours swirled that the unrest might prompt a loosening of the COVID restrictions. Similar rumours have caused markets to zig-zag in recent weeks.

The rare street protests in cities across China over the weekend were a vote against President Xi Jinping's zero-COVID policy and the strongest public defiance during his political career, China analysts said. Beijing has stuck with the zero-COVID policy even as much of the world has lifted most restrictions.

Oil prices are also supported by the expectation that major oil producers would adjust their production plans at the upcoming meeting.
