It would be illuminating to have a forensic accounting of the total sum to be ultimately borne by Malaysian taxpayers in the 1MDB saga.
As it is, big numbers are thrown around; this much may be stolen and that much (to be) recovered, but what debts still remain, even after the most optimistic recovery scenario?
You can get investment bank Goldman Sachs to settle, for they have a valuable business to protect, but for the individuals involved, you will have to catch them first or else the loot will be frittered away.
Not much hope resides there, given that certain powerful people may not want them caught at all.

You keep on digging a bigger hole with your detail explanation. Why 4 years and now 5 years to take action on the Murder most foul video? Every item read running off the Al Jazeera racism story just keeps on enhancing a bunch of incompetent people either in the public service or as politicians. Most of the players in this increasing farcical comedy now were also scene stealing all the comedy highlights in BN days.

Al Jazeera’s reporting is exposing some deep secrets that embarrassed Governments in Asia and Middle East. No wonder some want to close down the network, as part of the deal to remove the blockage on Qatar.

Even if some recent occupants had sullied the office, Parliament’s speaker is meant to be a holy responsibility in a sacred environment.
A few have achieved it, others have failed miserably. Whichever category you believe you fall into, Azhar, you have succeeded in lightning speed.
Until almost yesterday, you were the fervent defender of the public’s honour while also one of the nation’s greatest critics of the rancid politicians who would grievously stray from the high road.
And today, you actually come out with a puerile “I was not ordering, I was simply requesting”. Is the relationship among the courts, Parliament and the executive, to be given form in cosy little love letters exchanging “requests”?
Your writing to the courts, a fellow equal as you claim, was a shameful act made only worse by your pathetic attempts at justifying it. Let others mind their cattle, Azhar, you tend to your own flock.
Your immature bravado has set the judiciary against the legislature, and in case you have not realised it, the more entrenched public perception would now be that “it runs in the family”.
In the realm of the all-embracing institution of parliamentary democracy, one mere man’s presence or absence is a triviality you should not have indulged in; in doing so, you have reduced Parliament to crude politics even if you are indifferent to how society and history will henceforth regard you.
However, Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah will emerge from this sorry episode with honour intact, flag flying high.
His displeasure at your interference is readily evident from the fact that he granted the very minimum latitude you prayed for - he allowed the accused, Najib Abdul Razak, to fly the roost with only 15 minutes to spare.
Until recently, Pandikar Amin Mulia was the towering monument to his own brand of administering Parliament. The only surprise, Azhar, is the speed with which you have outdone him.

For six decades, under the previous BN, you tried this and failed. Now, under your new name Perikatan Nasional (PN), you want to try again?
That is one of the worst attempts at what seems to be a deception perpetrated on the bumiputera community and you expect them to buy into it? You must be a hopeless optimist if you do.
Unfortunately for you and your lot, there is no money left in the coffers because it has all been taken by unscrupulous people in power. Now, you can only talk and give an illusion that you are helping the community.
Meanwhile, when businesses go bust, you will blame other races for their failure.

Finally, look at what could have been developed if those billions were spent on the nation devoid of a race agenda.
What I mean to say is if the national education system was given priority and the curriculum reflective of top-class standard, including the decision to implement English medium and enhancing the vocational system, and with that good educational background, the manufacturing and services sector could perhaps in the last 10-15 years at least evolved to producing higher-value-added products and services.

Then look at how much of wastage had occurred in all these agencies set up under the bumiputera agenda and how the intra-community Gini coefficient (which is a measure of statistical dispersion intended to represent the income inequality or wealth inequality within a nation or any other group of people) has evolved, for better or worse.

The starting point should be to analyse since 1969 how much money has been spent on the bumiputera agenda and what were the results in terms of the group’s socio-economic development - education, employment, improvement in household income, entrepreneurial development, etc.

This one alone (the return of the money) is enough to nail the coffin. Sorry, Najib, the PN did the arrangement to finish you early, compared to, PH, PH was generous and gave you every legal means to defend yourself.
