NEW YORK: U.S. semiconductor company Qualcomm Inc on Thursday rejected Broadcom Ltd's revised $121 billion buyout offer, but proposed meeting its peer to see whether they can address what it called the bid's "serious deficiencies in value and certainty."
Qualcomm's response attempts to strike a balance between continuing to resist Broadcom's takeover attempt and heeding the calls of some Qualcomm shareholders, who urged the company in recent days to engage with its rival in case it can clinch an attractive deal.
Qualcomm said Broadcom's latest $82 per share offer, comprising $60 per share in cash and $22 per share in stock, "materially undervalues" Qualcomm and falls short of the firm regulatory commitment it would demand given the significant antitrust risks involved.
Broadcom did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Other possibilities RHB saw in Budget 2018 include:
The voluntary reduction in Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributions is not expected to be extended to 2018, given the recovery in private consumption in the second quarter of this year.
The government is unlikely to cut corporate and individual income tax rates for 2018.
The government will likely increase its allocation for development expenditure.
The government may implement reforms on pensions, which took up 10.4% of total expenses in the first half of this year.
Expenditure on healthcare and education subsidies is expected to increase next year, coinciding with GE14.
With Budget 2018 themed “Shaping the Future”, the government is expected to shift its focus from previous budgets (ie fiscal discipline) to one that emphasises the country’s aspirations for the next 30 years under Transformasi National 2050 (TN50).
The government may likely place a lot more emphasis on economic development that uses technology – such as robotics and cloud computing – to make advancements.
The government is expected to boost growth in the digital economy.
Possible tax incentives for industries that pioneer into fields such as automation, robotic development, big data, and cloud services.
The government is envisaged to provide further incentives for SMEs to further stimulate their growth.
Prime Minister Najib Razak, as finance minister, is expected to table Budget 2018 on 27 October at the Dewan Rakyat.

When the CEO says the merger will complete by year end, it means the definitive agreement will need to be signed in the very near term to ensure the changes in the transition period to take place before year end. Not surprised if the agreement is to be signed within this 2 weeks.

From TheEDGE weekly...this is what the President and CEO said...
1. MBSB's conventional loans (only about 15%) will be converted to Islamic. No issue.
2. MBSB will not be taking its NPL into the merged MBSB-AFB entity. ( that means it will be a clean start)
3. There are Islamic funds out there hungry for finance stocks. Thats why its important that MBSB addresses the conventional loans in its book... It needs to be seen as a fully syariah -compliant lender.
Investors will have no more concerns based on his comments. Good luck everyone!
