With the selling of Mykads to foreigners, threat of terrorism, SKIN is needed badly and immediately to counter these threats. Immigration dept need SKIN urgently.

Hopefuly Tun M will announce reinstatement of SKIN. Even at 30% less, enough to limit up. Why pay 2b for a new system and compensation of 750m when you can restart SKIN at a lower cost?
2019-10-30 23:02 | Report Abuse
Better to reinstate at a lower price than to pay 750m compensation and appoint new contractor. Takes a long time to get new system going. Immigration dept needs SKIN to track illegals and terrorists. Prestaring system can start anytime.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo is set to propose a national data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy to the Cabinet.
"Most of the technology that we will employ in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 will depend on AI, so it is better that we have a clear policy in relation to that. This is a top priority for my ministry," Gobind said at the Next Big Tech Asia 2019 event in Kuala Lumpur.
This is not to be confused with the National AI Framework currently being developed by Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
The National AI Framework is an expansion of the National Big Data Analytics (BDA) ecosystem developed in 2015, with the aim to drive Malaysia's AI ecosystem.
MDEC chief executive officer Surina Shukri had earlier announced at a separate event that the National AI Framework is now more than 50% ready and will be presented to Gobind's ministry soon.
"MDEC has been working on this for sometime now, but to me, it is important that we get a policy that is recognised by the government,” said Gobind.
“To me, in future, a lot will depend on data; how you analyse and store data, and AI is a critical element of that part. So my ministry is looking into that, formulating a policy that deals with that aspect."
However, he did not specify as to when the policy will be ready.
"I don't want to put a timeline, because we are not rushing into it. As technology develops day by day, it becomes more complex. It's important that we understand data and know how we can use it,” he said.
"It is events like this that brings the stakeholders together and we get input from them as to what their concerns are as well as get suggestions on what the direction should be. We are at the stage of listening to all the stakeholders, after that we will sit down to formulate a policy and once it is ready, I will present it to the Cabinet.”
The Next Big Tech Asia 2019 is a two-day conference at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre that aims to increase public awareness on Big Data Analytics, and features global experts who share their experience in transforming data into valuable insights.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is aiming to raise Kuala Lumpur's smart city score from the current 52.83% to 75% within the next five years, says Zuraida Kamaruddin.
The Housing and Local Government Minister said more smart housing projects would be created under the 12th Malaysia Plan to achieve the target.
"We want to make Kuala Lumpur and other cities here on par with other smart cities in developed countries," she said after opening the Smart Cities Asia 2019 conference here on Wednesday (Sept 11).
Currently, London tops the global smart city index with 100% score, followed by New York (94.63%).
Smart cities come complete with information and communication technology infrastructure, smart energy, transportation and utility services incorporating sustainable elements to reduce wastage and cost.
The two-day Smart Cities Asia 2019 conference attracted more than a thousand participants and 35 speakers from 25 countries.
The conference is aimed at promoting partnerships and tapping potential to create smart cities through pioneering urban solutions, among others, to transform cities around the world.

The government is looking into the possibility of using recorded lessons by selected teachers to be shared with other schools, said Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He said the method was aimed, among others, at simplifying and enhancing the quality of teaching back home.
“We are trying to simplify teaching because teachers are not the same…so what we want to do is make use of good teachers, record their lessons and use the recorded lessons for other schools where teachers will guide the students (on the lessons),” he said during his visit to Ritsumeikan Primary School in Kyoto today.
He said the method would not only help to educate students but also improve the knowledge of the guiding teachers.
“At the same time, the teachers will also learn, and the quality of teaching should improve using this system,” said Mahathir who took part in the traditional Japanese tea drinking ceremony during the school visit.
The prime minister also spent some time observing robotics, information and communication technology as well as pottery classes.
Ritsumeikan Primary School has the distinction of being the first school in Japan to use a blend of traditional approach and modern technology in its teaching methods.
Opened in 2006 and currently has over 700 students, the school was also the pioneer in introducing robotics technology in its curriculum.

E-learning (online learning) will be made a platform to help raise the English proficiency level of students and improve the skills of teachers teaching the language, says Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik.
According to him, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had stressed the need to use technology to teach the English Language subject when discussing the problem of low proficiency in the language among school teachers, at the cabinet meeting yesterday.
"In the years to come, the learning session should not be dependent on the teachers only. The education sector should also be using the e-learning platform so that students can learn from the best English Language teachers.”
He said this at a news conference after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Pintar Foundation and the Education Ministry, here, today.
Maszlee said the ministry welcomed the contribution of various parties including the private sector to produce more educational materials including through social media like YouTube.
“The teaching materials on YouTube should be more informal yet informative to ensure quality and to draw students’ interest,” he said.
Maszlee said in future, the ministry would also need more cooperation from various parties to contribute to quality education for school students with materials for classroom learning or outside the classroom.
