https://newsroom.airasia.com/news/aagb-1q2021-financial-results
Net Loss After Tax was RM976 million for the quarter, which was 2.4% wider than in 1Q2020.
The weaker YoY performance was due to a shortfall in revenue and several costs, including a loss of forex and fair value on derivatives of RM157 million as well as a fuel swap loss of RM30 million. Excluding these items as well as a gain on disposal of RM40 million, AAGB would have reported a net loss after tax of RM829 million. A significant RM527 million of the loss was related to depreciation of right-of-use assets and interest on lease liabilities. This was despite successful negotiations for deferrals with lessors, as due to Amendments to MFRS16: Covid 19 Related Rent Concessions, the income statement charge for depreciation and interest were not adjusted.

KUALA LUMPUR (June 3): AirAsia X Bhd will be providing special services for repatriation purposes between Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Sydney, Australia in June.
Chief executive officer (CEO) Benyamin Ismail said the airline is offering seats for sale via the AirAsia super app and airasia.com website, subject to availability and based on demand.
“We understand that many people have been facing difficulties in travelling due to limited flights caused by the pandemic, so we are pleased to be able to provide these special services to help bring people home during these challenging times.
“Seats are limited, so we advise that guests plan ahead and book as soon as possible,” he said in a statement today.
The airline said for the time being, flights from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney will be on June 6 and 13, 2021, while flights from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur will be on June 7 and 14, 2021, adding that there will be more flights between Kuala Lumpur and Sydney on sale soon.
“Guests need to familiarise themselves with border restrictions and ensure that relevant approvals are obtained before their flight, including travel documentation as required by the local authorities.
“Quarantine requirements will apply on arrival,” it said.

Thailand’s reopening plan
In April, the Thai government detailed a tiered reopening plan. Since April 1, foreign tourists traveling to the pilot provinces of Phuket, Krabi, Phang Nga, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui and Pattaya have been permitted to enter if they have a vaccination certificate and quarantine for seven days in a hotel.
Then as of July 1, foreign tourists arriving in Phuket who’ve received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine will not be required to quarantine for seven days. In the third phase, starting Oct. 1, travelers arriving in the five aforementioned pilot areas will not have to quarantine if they are fully vaccinated.
And finally, starting Jan.1, 2022, no foreign tourists arriving in Thailand will need to quarantine so long as they are fully vaccinated.

KUALA LUMPUR: A study has found that the COVID-19 death toll in the country may reach up to a staggering 26,000 by September based on the current trajectory, said World Health Organisation (WHO) Science Council member Prof Datuk Dr Adeeba Kamarulzaman.
The estimated number will be at least nine times the current cumulative death toll, which stood at 2,993 today.
She said the study, conducted by the Institute for Health Metric and Evaluation (IHME) of the University of Washington in the United States, also estimated that the daily death rate would go as high as 200 cases towards the end of August.
