Tradeview Top Glove 2Q 2021 Results Update

Dear all, following another round of strong showing and spectacular results by Top Glove, I would like to share some insight in terms of my view towards the company' performance. I have also listened in on the investors briefing to understand better directly from the top 3 management of the company.

Tomorrow a slew of analysts report will be out with regards to their recent results, so I will not waste time dwelling in depth. In short, a few key results metrics to take note :

1. Revenue is record high RM 5.34 Billion
2. Net Profit is record high RM 2.87 Billion
3. Dividend is record high at 25.2 sens
4. Cash position is record high at RM 4.06 billion

For the first half of FY 21 (Q1 +Q2), the net profit exceed the cumulative net profit of the past 20 years. This means the past 20 years net profit add up also cannot beat the 1H of FY 21 alone. This quarter alone the net profit is almost 2X Maybank's net profit for the same quarter. In fact, Top Glove net profit this quarter is more than Maybank (RM 1.5 Billion) + Public Bank (RM 1.1 Billion) combined. Moving on to dividend yield, this quarter alone, the dividend yield at this price is close to 4.8%. If you assume that Top Glove can maintain more or less the same performance in the coming quarters, the dividend yield for full year would be close to 17% return.

With regards to the outlook :

1. The management expects 2H2021 to do even better than 1H21. This is because the demand is still strong with higher ASP between 3-5% in the coming months for nitrile segment and 3% for latex segment.

2. Delivery lead time reduction is due to fresh capacity coming onboard especially nitrile gloves.

3. Management do not believe EBITDA margins have peaked at this quarter with better performance ahead.

4. Hong Kong listing whilst dilution impact is there, it is mitigated because of stronger profits and dividend ahead. The current share price is attractive as the share price not peak pricing where new investors would still get value for their investments and existing shareholders from pre-pandemic times still enjoy the benefits of being early investors. Hong Kong is huge stock market and will attract or tap new funds from North Asia which would otherwise not invest in SGX or Bursa.

5. CBP issue is at final stage and the company have applied for Certificate of Fitness for Accommodation under Akta 466.

My personal take, Hartalega and Riverstone remain my favourite glove companies. However, being objective, Top Glove results is very impressive. I think for investors who do not believe in glove stocks cannot fathom the level of revenue and profits that glove makers are making hence they move with the herd mentality that with Covid-19 gone, the company value is gone. This is not true. I have mentioned before, profits earned goes into the company as retained earnings. The higher the retained earnings, the more valuable the company would be. If the company wants to maintain its value or become more valuable, it must deploy its retained earnings wisely. If they managed to deploy their retained earnings wisely, their value goes up further. Investors should make a decision to invest based on the value of the company, not on short term thematic play using the "wind" to decide what companies and stocks are good for investing. Behind every stock ticker, there is a company. The value of the stock lies in the value of the company. Investors must understand this concept to truly grasp the rationale behind investing in the stock market. Otherwise, it is at most an act of speculation.
