An environmental impact assessment is a must as Saudi Aramco is interested in making Malaysia the hub for the development of Saudi Arabian oil and gas in Southeast Asia.

Saudi Aramco is interested in making Malaysia the hub for the development of Saudi Arabian oil and gas in Southeast Asia. However, this interest is contingent on the completion of an environmental impact assessment (EIA). An EIA is a study that assesses the potential environmental impacts of a proposed project. If the EIA finds that the project would have significant environmental impacts, then Saudi Aramco may decide not to proceed with the project.

Malaysia is a good candidate for this hub because it is a stable and safe country with a well-developed infrastructure. Malaysia is also a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which is a regional economic bloc that has a growing demand for oil and gas.

Yes, the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (KL-SG HSR) project needs an environmental study. This is because the project will have a significant impact on the environment, including:

Air pollution: The construction and operation of the HSR will emit pollutants into the air, including particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxide. These pollutants can contribute to respiratory problems, heart disease, and cancer.
Water pollution: The construction and operation of the HSR will use water for cooling and cleaning, and some of this water may be contaminated with chemicals. The HSR will also produce wastewater, which will need to be treated before it is released into the environment.
Land disturbance: The construction of the HSR will require the clearing of land, which could have an impact on wildlife habitats. The HSR will also require the construction of bridges and tunnels, which could disrupt water flow and cause erosion.
Noise pollution: The operation of the HSR will generate noise, which could disturb people and wildlife.
Visual impact: The HSR will be a major infrastructure project, and its construction and operation will have a visual impact on the landscape.
An environmental study would help to identify and assess the potential environmental impacts of the KL-SG HSR project. This would allow the governments of Malaysia and Singapore to make informed decisions about whether or not to allow the project to proceed, and to put in place measures to mitigate any negative impacts.

In addition to the environmental impacts, the KL-SG HSR project could also have a social impact on the local communities. For example, the project could lead to the displacement of people, the loss of traditional livelihoods, and the degradation of cultural heritage. An environmental study would also need to consider these social impacts.

The environmental study would be conducted by a team of experts who would have the necessary knowledge and experience to assess the potential impacts of the KL-SG HSR project. The study would be submitted to the governments of Malaysia and Singapore for approval before any construction could take place.

The environmental study is an important part of the planning process for the KL-SG HSR project. It would help to ensure that the project is carried out in a way that minimizes its environmental and social impacts.

The KL-SG HSR project has been the subject of much debate, with some people arguing that the environmental impacts are too great. However, others argue that the project will have a number of economic benefits, such as reducing traffic congestion and stimulating economic growth. Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to proceed with the project will need to be made by the governments of Malaysia and Singapore, taking into account all of the relevant factors.

Yes, rare earth mining in Kedah needs an environmental study. This is because rare earth mining can have a significant impact on the environment, including:

Air pollution: Rare earth mining can release harmful pollutants into the air, including particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, and heavy metals. These pollutants can contribute to respiratory problems, heart disease, and cancer.
Water pollution: Rare earth mining can contaminate water supplies with heavy metals and other pollutants. This can make water unsafe to drink, bathe in, or use for agricultural purposes.
Land contamination: Rare earth mining can leave behind large amounts of waste, which can contaminate soil and groundwater. This can make land unusable for agriculture or other purposes.
Impact on wildlife: Rare earth mining can disrupt ecosystems and harm wildlife. For example, mining can destroy habitats, pollute water supplies, and introduce new pollutants into the environment.
An environmental study would help to identify and assess the potential environmental impacts of rare earth mining in Kedah. This would allow the government to make informed decisions about whether or not to allow mining to proceed, and to put in place measures to mitigate any negative impacts.

In addition to the environmental impacts, rare earth mining can also have a social impact on the local community. Yes, Geely's new car plant in Malaysia needs an environmental study. This is because the plant will be using a number of chemicals and processes that could potentially have an impact on the environment. The environmental study will help to identify any potential risks and to put in place measures to mitigate them.

The study will likely look at a number of factors, including:

The types of chemicals that will be used at the plant
The quantities of chemicals that will be used
The potential emissions from the plant
The potential impact on air quality, water quality, and soil quality
The potential impact on wildlife and vegetation
The study will also need to consider the plant's location and the surrounding environment. For example, if the plant is located near a river, the study will need to consider the potential impact on the river's water quality.

The environmental study will be conducted by a team of experts who will have the necessary knowledge and experience to assess the potential risks to the environment. The study will be submitted to the Malaysian government for approval before the plant can be built.

The environmental study is an important part of the planning process for the Geely car plant in Malaysia. It will help to ensure that the plant is built in a way that minimizes its environmental impact.

Here are some of the potential environmental impacts of the Geely car plant:

Air pollution: The plant will emit pollutants into the air, including particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxide. These pollutants can contribute to respiratory problems, heart disease, and cancer.
Water pollution: The plant will use water for cooling and cleaning, and some of this water may be contaminated with chemicals. The plant will also produce wastewater, which will need to be treated before it is released into the environment.
Land contamination: The plant will use a number of chemicals, some of which may be harmful to the environment. If these chemicals are not properly disposed of, they could contaminate the soil and groundwater.
Impact on wildlife: The plant could have an impact on wildlife in the area. For example, the plant's noise and light pollution could disturb animals, and the plant's emissions could poison plants and animals.
The environmental study will help to identify these potential impacts and to put in place measures to mitigate them. For example, the plant could be built with pollution control devices to reduce air emissions. The plant could also be designed to collect and treat wastewater before it is released into the environment.

The environmental study is an important part of the planning process for the Geely car plant in Malaysia. It will help to ensure that the plant is built in a way that minimizes its environmental impact.

Need environmental study

LONDON, July 20 (Reuters) - Rapid demand growth as a result of the energy transition could lead to a shortage of several metals in the next decade unless investment is increased, a global group of energy producers, consumers and financial institutions said.

Large supply gaps for lithium, nickel, graphite, cobalt, neodymium and copper could lead to higher prices and delay the goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050, the Energy Transitions Commission (ETC) said in a report.

To reduce the risk of shortage, mines need to produce more, but large-scale mining projects can take up to 20 years to come online, and the last decade was characterised by a lack of investment in exploration and output, the ETC said.

"In some key minerals - particularly lithium and copper - it will be challenging to scale up supply fast enough over the next decade to keep pace with rapidly rising demand," ETC Chair Adair Turner said in the report.

Annual capital investment in energy transition metals averaged US$45 billion over the last two decades compared with the US$70 billion needed each year through to 2030 to expand supply, the ETC said.

"Governments, regulators, producers and consumers must work together to increase recycling, improve material efficiency, invest in new mining, and regulate environmental and social standards," Turner said.

The energy transition, according to the commission, will require production of up to 6.5 billion tonnes of materials cumulatively between 2022 and 2050, with steel, copper and aluminium accounting for 95 per cent.

The forecast assumes an aggressive deployment of clean energy technologies for global decarbonisation and that recycling and the amount of material needed would follow recent trends.

However, if investors manage to speed up progress on technology, efficiency and the recycling of clean energy materials, the cumulative need for fresh supply from mines would eventually fall by 20 per cent–60 per cent, it added.

KUALA LUMPUR: There could be continued upside on the domestic market after the recent pullback as US corporate earnings continue to lift investor optimism in global markets.

According to Malacca Securities Research, investors on Bursa Malaysia retreated to the sidelines ahead of the mid-week break, but could resume their buying activity over the remainder of the week.

"After 2-days of pullback, bargain hunting activities may return to the fore as the key index may play catch-up with the positive developments on Wall Street in the recent days.

"Meanwhile, the lower liners may remain upbeat in view of the improved market sentiment," said the research firm in a note.

TA Securities Research meanwhile expects the market to stay in consolidation as profit-taking continues to keep blue chips range-bound.

"Immediate index resistance remains at the 100-day moving average at 1,415, with the next key resistance at the 200-day moving average at 1,436 and the next hurdle seen at 1,450.

"Crucial support at 1,369 will be the key pivot support, strongly cushioning the downside," said the research firm in its review.

At the opening bell, Malaysia's benchmark FBM KLCI was 1.54 points higher at 1,404.57 as the market was kept buoyed by yet another positive session on Wall Street following the release of strong corporate earnings results.

Gainers on the market included MPI up 46 sen to RM31.44, UOA Development climbing 12 sen to RM1.73 and MAHB rising seven sen to RM6.97.

Aurelius Tech jumped seven sen to RM2.52 while IOI Corp added six sen to RM3.94.

Making its market debut on Bursa Malaysia, MST Golf was down 8.5 sen to 73.5 sen on the back of 21.59 million shares traded, making it the second most actively traded stock in the opening minutes of trade.

Classica topped the actives list with 29.42 million shares exchanging hands, falling 0.5 sen to 22.5 sen, while Siab gained one sen to 14.5 sen on 14.5 million shares crossed.

SHAH ALAM - Malaysia is expected to be the focus of the world's largest institutional investors hosted by UBS, the largest international private bank in the future.

Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said his delegation met with institutional investors who have assets under management between RM180 billion and RM3.2 trillion, and exchanged views on the current economic and political situation, as well as sharing ministry plans for the coming years.

According to him, in the discussion, the ministry focused on the National Energy Transition Roadmap, which can have a major impact on the Malaysian economy with a total investment opportunity of RM637 billion.

"The Ministry of Economy has received encouraging responses from the most influential venture capital firms in the startup world, such as GGV, Iterative VC, TPG Global, East Ventures, Insignia Ventures Partners, and Openspace Ventures, for the ministry's efforts in developing the startup ecosystem in Malaysia.

"In the session hosted by K3 Ventures and Bloomberg, one of the venture capital firms announced their intention to open a branch in Kuala Lumpur soon," he said in a statement.

Earlier, Rafizi led the Malaysian delegation to Singapore to attend the 16th Malaysia-Singapore Joint Ministerial Committee Meeting for Iskandar Malaysia (JMCIM), which took place on July 14.

JMCIM agreed to create a special task force to study the establishment of a Johor-Singapore special economic zone.

The purpose of this special economic zone is to increase investment and high-quality jobs in Johor and Singapore by facilitating the flow of people-to-people movement, goods, and business.

This special task force will be led by the Ministry of Economy from Malaysia and the Ministry of Trade and Industry from Singapore, with support from other government agencies.

Rafizi added that the Ministry of Economy will continue to be open to regional cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, talent, and technology.

"Engagement sessions with venture capital firms and experienced founders will be held more often to express the country's ambition to make Kuala Lumpur a regional startup hub.

"I will convey the feedback received from this visit as well as the policies that need to be formulated to the Malaysian cabinet ministers as a measure of economic restructuring by selecting the country's catalyst industries," said Rafizi.

During the visit, Rafizi said, the Ministry of Economy, together with the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), held dialogue sessions with semiconductor companies such as Micron, Infineon Technologies, ST Microelectronics, Venture Corporation, and Synopsys to outline the strategic vision of the semiconductor industry in Malaysia.

"The semiconductor industry is estimated to reach US$1 trillion in 2030 due to increased global demand.

"Determining a strategic vision that can use our existing advantages, especially in backend and integrated circuit design, is able to create high-paying and high-value jobs," he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: UOB Kay Hian Securities (M) Sdn Bhd (UOBKH), acting as the independent adviser for NationGate Holdings Bhd's managing director Ooi Eng Leong's offer for shares he does not own in Ewein Bhd at 60 sen a share, has deemed the offer "not fair and not reasonable".

UOBKH said its opinion of the offer by Ooi is on the basis that the price represents a discount of 42.31 per cent to the estimated value of Ewein shares using the sums-of-part valuation of RM1.04 per share and generally is at a discount over the historical market prices of Ewein shares.

It is also premised on the fact that Ooi intends to maintain the listing status of Ewein and has no intention to compulsorily acquire the remaining shares he does not own.

The non-interested directors, concur with UOBKH that the offer is "not fair and not reasonable" and have recommended that shareholders' reject the offer.

Ewein's share price closed at RM1.46 a share yesterday.

In 2003, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) awarded a RM214.2 million fibre optic replacement contract to Opcom Cables Sdn Bhd, a company in which Mahathir Mohamad's third son, Mukhriz, was a director. The contract was awarded without any tender, and Anwar Ibrahim has alleged that Mahathir used his position as prime minister and finance minister to influence the decision.

Anwar has also alleged that the contract was overpriced, and that Opcom did not have the necessary experience or expertise to carry out the work. He has called for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the matter.

Mahathir has denied any wrongdoing, and has said that the contract was awarded fairly. He has also said that the MACC is free to investigate the matter, but that he is confident that no wrongdoing will be found.

The MACC has said that it is still gathering information on the matter, and that it will take action if there is any evidence of corruption.

The allegations against Mahathir have been met with mixed reactions. Some people have called for him to be investigated, while others have defended him, saying that he is a respected figure who would not have engaged in any wrongdoing.

The case is still ongoing, and it remains to be seen whether the MACC will find any evidence of corruption. However, the allegations have cast a shadow over Mahathir's legacy, and they have raised questions about his use of power.

Progressive impact shares (PIS) are a type of investment that combines the potential for financial returns with the goal of social impact. PIS are typically structured as a blend of traditional equity and debt instruments, with the proceeds from the sale of shares used to fund social impact projects.

There are several justifications for buying PIS. First, PIS offer investors the opportunity to invest in companies that are working to address some of the world's most pressing social challenges. This can be a way for investors to align their financial goals with their social values.

Second, PIS can provide investors with the potential for financial returns that are comparable to those of traditional investments. This is because PIS are typically structured as equity investments, which means that investors have the potential to share in the upside of the companies in which they invest.

Third, PIS can provide investors with the opportunity to receive social impact dividends. These dividends are payments that are made to investors from the proceeds of the social impact projects that are funded by PIS. Social impact dividends can provide investors with a tangible way to measure the impact of their investment.
