Toyota's Camry, best-selling car in US, goes all-hybrid
DETROIT, Nov 14 (Reuters) - The next generation of the Toyota Camry, the best-selling sedan in the U.S. market, will come with only a gas-electric hybrid powertrain, the boldest move yet by the Japanese automaker to push hybrid technology into the heart of the U.S. market.
The 2025 Camry will combine a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric drive system tuned to deliver more power in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions of the car, Toyota said.

EV maker Nio considers more job cuts after shedding 10% staff
(Reuters) - Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Nio (NYSE:NIO) Inc may undertake further job cuts after the company announced plans to cut 10% of its workforce last month, Bloomberg News reported on Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Some departments were asked to prepare reserve lay-off lists, which may widen the original dismissals to 20% to 30% within the unit, according to the report.
The cuts would apply mainly to non-core businesses or ones that would not generate quick returns or require heavy investment, the report added.
Nio did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
The additional cuts come after Nio said in November that it planned to eliminate 10% of its jobs, as it moves to improve efficiency and reduce costs in the face of growing competition.
Demand for EVs has weakened in China as consumers favour more economical plug-in hybrids.

China blue-chip stocks hit 5-year lows, yuan eases after Moody's move
SHANGHAI (Reuters) -China's blue-chip stocks slumped to an almost five-year trough on Wednesday while the yuan currency extended losses, as markets grappled with Moody's (NYSE:MCO) cut to China's credit outlook at a time of growing worries about the economy's stuttering recovery.
The ratings agency issued a downgrade warning on China's sovereign credit rating on Tuesday, saying costs to bail out local governments and state firms and control its property crisis would weigh on the world's second-largest economy.
China stocks opened down with the CSI300 Index touching its lowest level since Feb. 2019, before recouping earlier losses. It was 0.4% higher as of 0612 GMT, with the Shanghai Composite Index up by 0.1%.

Ringgit lower against US dollar on yuan's weakness
KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit ended lower against the US dollar on Tuesday following the weakening in the Chinese yuan after ratings agency Moody's cut its outlook on China's government credit ratings to negative.
At 6 pm, the ringgit decreased to 4.6610/6660 against the greenback from Monday’s close of 4.6550/6600.
Bank Muamalat Malaysia chief economist Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the downgrade from stable to negative suggests that the odds of possible sovereign rating cut for China has escalated.
"This happened as the China government is ramping up its fiscal stimulus measures to bolster its economic actitivities as it needs to grapple with the weakening property markets.
"I think given that there is a positive correlation between the yuan and the ringgit, the weakneses in the yuan could result in a weaker ringgit,” he told Bernama.

Chinese stocks sink as positive PMI offers little relief
China’s Shanghai Shenzhen CSI 300 and Shanghai Composite indexes fell 0.6% each, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng shed 1.1%, pressured chiefly by mainland stocks.
Markets largely brushed off a private purchasing managers index survey showing bigger-than-expected growth in China’s services sector, given that the reading still showed growth well below pre-COVID levels.
Sentiment towards China was also battered by growing concerns over a new epidemic in the country, following a surge in respiratory illnesses across major cities. The National Health Commission, which was at the heart of the country’s three year long COVID-19 crackdown, reportedly suggested curbs on public gatherings in light of the recent outbreak.

Chinese borrowers default in record numbers as economic crisis deepens
More than 8mn people are blacklisted by authorities after missed payments on mortgages and business loans
Defaults by Chinese borrowers have surged to a record high since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, highlighting the depth of the country’s economic downturn and the obstacles to a full recovery.
A total of 8.54mn people, most of them between the ages of 18 and 59, are officially blacklisted by authorities after missing payments on everything from home mortgages to business loans, according to local courts.
That figure, equivalent to about 1 per cent of working-age Chinese adults, is up from 5.7mn defaulters in early 2020, as pandemic lockdowns and other restrictions hobbled economic growth and gutted household incomes.
The soaring number of defaulters will add to the difficulty of shoring up consumer confidence in China, the world’s second largest economy and a crucial source of global demand. It also throws a spotlight on the country’s lack of personal bankruptcy laws that might soften the financial and social impact of soaring debt.

Fisker's leadership team visited China and met with officials and business leaders in Shanghai to discuss collaboration and opportunities in the region, it said in a June press release.
"I believe we can get production up and running in China as early as next year, potentially adding capacity of 75,000 Fisker Oceans annually," CEO Fisker said at the time.
The announcement of the Shanghai Fisker Lounge builds on its China strategy, as Fisker Lounges are located in a high-traffic retail locations where consumers can experience the Fisker brand and get a closer look at Fisker vehicles, the company said overnight.
Fisker is currently delivering the all-electric SUV Fisker Ocean in the US and Europe, which starts at $37,499 in the Sport trim level.

China Stocks See Record Monthly Streak of Foreign Fund Exodus
By Bloomberg News
November 1, 2023 at 7:00 AM GMT+8
Chinese stocks saw another month of foreign capital exodus as overseas funds offloaded 44.8 billion yuan ($6.1 billion) worth of mainland shares in October. The month saw only three days of inflows even as authorities ramped up support, with the sovereign fund buying banking stocks and exchange-traded funds.
The three-month selling streak, a record, amounts to 172 billion yuan and threatens to turn this year’s flow into negative territory. If that happens, it would be the first time China saw an annual outflow since the second mainland-Hong Kong trading link opened in late 2016.
