Oil rose amid signs of stabilization in China, the world’s second-biggest user, and as U.S. and OPEC production slows.

Futures gained as much as 1.5 percent in New York. China’s official manufacturing gauge for September came in at 49.8, above the median 49.7 forecast in a Bloomberg survey. A private gauge also beat estimates. U.S. production declined for the seventh time in eight weeks to a 10-month low. The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries produced 32 million barrels a day in September, down 0.7 percent from the previous month.

Oil has plunged more than 25 percent from this year’s closing peak in June amid speculation a global glut that drove prices to a six-year low will be sustained and as China’s economy grows at the slowest pace in a generation. U.S. crude stockpiles remain about 100 million barrels above the five-year seasonal average.

“China’s manufacturing data has at least improved from the previous month, which is a plus factor for oil prices,” Kang Yoo Jin, a commodities analyst at NH Investment & Securities Co. in Seoul, said by phone. “With oil staying below $50 a barrel, there’s a high chance that the U.S. output will continue to fall.”

Eco World seeks approval
Developer to get shareholders’ nod for big project in Penang
PETALING JAYA: Property developer Eco World Development Group Bhd is seeking shareholders’ approval for its multi-million ringgit mixed project in Penang.

The company issued a circular to Bursa Malaysia detailing two land parcels totalling 449.64 acres in Batu Kawan, which it is acquiring and plans to develop for a total consideration of RM796.27mil.

To recap, Eco World had in April received a letter of award from Penang Development Corp (PDC) to undertake the projects.

The projects comprise a 299.64-acre leasehold development – Eco Marina – which it is acquiring and developing into a mixed development of RM730.93mil, as well as the leasing of a 150-acre parcel as an international standard golf course with a minimum of 18 holes and a club house, for a 30-year period with an option to renew for a further 30 years for RM65.34mil.

This brings the total consideration for both sites to RM796.27mil.....

Ecoworld buys land in Selangor for RM1.18b
KUALA LUMPUR: Eco World Development Group Bhd is acquiring approximately 880 hectares of leasehold land in Ijok, Kuala Selangor for RM1.18 billion cash.

The land are located approximately 45 kilometres (km) from Kuala Lumpur city centre, 40km from Petaling Jaya city centre and 18km from Sungai Buloh town centre.

In a statement today, Chairman Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin said the opportunity to acquire over 800ha in the Klang Valley was rare.

"This strategic acquisition will enable EcoWorld to establish a dominant presence in North Western Klang Valley growth corridor with access to a new market catchment," he said.

EcoWorld has identified three projects to be developed on the land:

A mixed eco township known as "Eco Gardens";

An integrated gated industrial hub "Eco Business Park V"; and,

Affordable homes to be known as "Laman Indah", which includes housing units to be built for settlers and Rumah Selangorku homes.

The entire project is expected to take 15 years to complete and has an estimated gross development value of RM15 billion.

Hedge funds slashed their bets on falling oil prices, leaving them the most bullish in two months as OPEC called for a return to $80 crude.
Money managers’ net-long position in West Texas Intermediate rose by 14,821 contracts to 147,678 futures and options in the week ended Sept. 15, according to data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. That’s the highest level since July 7.
The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries expects crude prices to rise to $80 by 2020 as output falls elsewhere. U.S. production could sink by the most in 27 years in 2016 as the price rout extends a slump in drilling. Speculators closed out short positions two days before the Federal Reserve decided not to raise key U.S. interest rates.
“The market’s not as oversupplied as we think it is,” David Pursell, a managing director at investment bank Tudor Pickering Holt & Co. in Houston, said in a phone interview. "The news out of OPEC is more bullish, U.S. production is falling and demand is great right now."
The U.S. benchmark oil contract fell 2.9 percent in the report week to $44.59 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract settled at $44.68 Friday....
