Sapura was once regarded as a blue chip oil and gas engineering company thanks to high demand for oil and gas projects and high crude oil prices.

When oil price slipped, it also affected the company’s performance and caused its shares to drop. Situation made worse when Kencana Petroleum decided to exit from Sapura, causing the latter to be kicked out from the Kuala Lumpur Composite Index.

Good news now looms for Sapura Energy shareholders and potential shareholders as its president and chief executive Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin said the company will return to be profitable within 12 months.

He explained that losses incurred by Sapura were mainly because it has not been operating at full capacity. Only 50 per cent was used and this has caused the company to operate in a loss.
