Bursa Malaysia rebukes Macquarie for market manipulation
Bursa Malaysia has fined Australian brokerage Macquarie and two of its former heads of dealing for manipulating the price of stocks on the exchange over a period of eight months.

Bursa Malaysia has fined Australian brokerage Macquarie and two of its former heads of dealing for manipulating the price of stocks on the exchange over a period of eight months.

Thomas Chin Yun Phin and Hilton Lee were fined RM25,000 (US$8,396) and RM10,000 (US$3,358) respectively, while Macquarie received a fine of RM50,000 (US$16,792). Chin has also been permanently banned from trading on Bursa Malaysia, while Lee has been banned for a period of 18 months starting 23 November 2010.

The Malaysian exchange found that Chin – who it considered to be the main perpetrator – had an arrangement with Macquarie's facilitation desk to execute trades in a way that would alter the VWAP price of a stock and fulfill clients' guaranteed VWAP trades in order to minimise the broker's losses.

In one instance detailed by Bursa Malaysia, Chin and Lee entered six separate orders comprising 500,000 shares – larger than the corresponding client order – which lowered the market VWAP and led to an adverse execution price for clients.

A statement from Bursa Malaysia said that Macquarie had not undertaken an independent verification of the details provided to the exchange and had relied solely on representations made by Chin and Lee.

It added that the sanctions imposed reflected mitigating factors, such as the reporting of some of the inflated trades to the exchange by Macquarie and the remedial steps it has taken since, which include a thorough review of its dealing activities. Ӭ

It leaves a very bad taste in our mouths. The integrity of the markets and the participants are at stake. We need answers and clarity.



THE FUNNIEST THING ... and its a big mistake by Macquarie... look at the table for projections. The first table was by on the upgrade to TPRM30.40. The estimated revenue for 2021 and 2022 were RM12.14bn and RM7.413bn respectively. Reported profit for 2021 and 2022 were RM4.646bn and RM850m respectively.

THE DOWNGRADE REPORT projected revenue for 2021 and 2022 to RM19.058bn and RM9.023bn respectively. The expected profit for 2021 and 2022 were RM10.259bn and RM2.022bn respectively.

How da-macha? The massive downgrade report had a substantive upgrade in revenue and profit. SUDDENLY the valuation parameters changed???

It is not even funny, when within 15 days one can revised the profit UPWARDS from 4.64bn to 10.259bn (+110%) ... and at the same report downgrade the TP from RM10.13 to RM5.40 (-46%).

Please explain.

Surveys in the US, Canada and believe many others parts of the world show that a huge population will not accept / inject vaccines that have not been vigorously tested and proven to be 100% safe without any side effects which could harm your organs, etc. This normally takes years. My family and I will definitely wait until its 1000% safe. Until then PPE is the best protection – masks and gloves. So glove will definitely be in demand for the foreseeable future. (Just my opinion).

There is more than enough glove demand (huge) for any glove company that is able to supply quality medical gloves. The pie is huge. Even with the expansions the top 4, 2nd and 3rd tier glove companies are unable to meet these demands. This includes HLT. (just my opinion).

According to HLT the claim is frivolous and vexatious. Basically no merit. If so HLT will win with probably cost awarded to HLT. HLT can also counter claim.

Court cases between companies are common. Even big / huge companies sue each other.

What is more important is the performance of HLT especially during this difficult times. During the MCO periods when there were restrictive movements, they could still generate impressive PAT. This is commendable and exemplary.
