PETALING JAYA: Wedding feasts, as well as gatherings for tahlil prayers and the deceased (kenduri arwah), are not allowed during the two-week restricted movement order period from March 18 to March 31, says the Health Ministry.

In a posting on its "Sihat Milikku" Telegram channel, the ministry said many people asked whether such gatherings could be held from Wednesday until March 31.

"The answer is, NOT allowed.

"This is because they are social gatherings," the Ministry said.

Provisions in Section 11(4) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988, read together with Section 24(2) of the same Act, made such acts a criminal offence from March 18 to March 31, the statement said.

The ministry said those who defied the government's Movement Control Order could be sentenced to a prison term of up to two years, a fine or both, upon conviction.

Workers cry foul as some companies impose unpaid leave

GEORGE TOWN: Some companies and tourist attractions are reportedly forcing their employees to take unpaid leave during the two-week period of the controlled movement order which is shutting down the operations of non-essential sectors.

An employee of a tourism attraction who wished to be known only as Chew, said she had just been informed by her management executive that she would have to take unpaid leave.

"They just informed me that I would have to go on unpaid leave until March 31.

"I believe this is unfair as I don't want to be off and am not quarantined.

"If they give us unpaid leave, what will we do at the end of the month when our pay is pretty much halved?

The Singapore government is scrambling to find ways to house Malaysians who commute daily from Johor to the city-state for work.

This is after Putrajaya's announced a Movement Control Order to combat the Covid-19 outbreak, which will bar them from leaving the country beginning midnight until the end of the month.

The question arises: What will happen to the workers, come Wednesday?

Authorities took the first round of blood when the dog was admitted into quarantine; since two rounds of blood samples are needed, and they can only be taken about a week apart, authorities have yet to do the second blood draw.
