We refer to the news article entitled “Datasonic, MyEG implicated in charges against Zahid” which appeared on TheEdgeMarkets.com on Friday, 19 October 2018.

The Company wishes to clarify that neither the Company nor any of its Directors has issued any payment to Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as reported by TheEdgeMarkets.com in relation to the supply 12.5 million chips for the Malaysian passport. Datasonic Technologies Sdn Bhd ("DTSB") has won a 5-year contract to supply passport polycarbobate datapages and printing system based on per passport produce through open tender in April 2012. DTSB was awarded for the supply of 12.5 million chips on 15 December 2015 based on value proposition of enhanced chips security (to put the chips bonded into the polycarbonate datapage instead of at the back of passport cover) and 15% lower pricing as compared to the previous vendor that provided a total saving of RM56.25 million to the Government over a period of 5 years.

a short seller needs to sell first maybe sell at e.g. 0.625, he will then buy back at a cheaper price e.g 0.615 any price lower than his costs as he needs to square his position - make it zero. This has to be done before 4.00pm the same day for retailers.Funds may have other arrangements.
If a short seller can't buy back at a cheaper price, he will lose money.
Now, we need to make hime lose money. no body is going to sell at 0.615 and below. The short seller is going to kill each other.

it's very common for directors of any counters to have a few accounts e.g. keep buying using account A. When account A has accummulated lots of stocks and reached the margin facility, then they will transfer the stsocks from account A to account B.

I don't see Mr Chew selling - need to report to Bursa. I always see him buying, keep buying to support the share price; however, i see Iris directors are selling.

Datasonic Group Berhad (Company No. 809759-X) (“the Company”) wishes to announce that the Mediation Center at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex has fixed the mediation session for the Suit to be held on 17 October 2018.

Story line:

27 April 2016 DTSB had accepted the letter of award from Kementerian Dalam Negeri for the supply of 13.416 million Malaysian Passport booklets to Immigration Department of Malaysia from 1 December 2016 to 30 November 2021.

DTBS appointed PKN as subcontractor to deliver the first 1.5 million old Malaysian Passport design booklets from 1 December 2016 until 31 May 2017


A copy of draft agreement was sent to PKN based on DTSB offered price.
PKN did not agree on DTSB offered price but continue to supply the old Malaysian Passport booklets.

No agreement was signed but PKN had decided to deliver the 1.5 million old Malaysian Passport designed booklets with full understanding that pricing were to be agreed upon at future date.


The legal suit will not affect DTSB’s Malaysian passport booklets contract with the Government for the period of 5 years as PKN is only our appointed subcontractor for that interim period of 6 months only

On 27 April 2016, Datasonic Technologies Sdn Bhd (Company No. 219626-X) (“DTSB”) had accepted the letter of award from Kementerian Dalam Negeri for the supply of 13.416 million Malaysian Passport booklets to Immigration Department of Malaysia from 1 December 2016 to 30 November 2021.

DTSB has agreed to appoint Percetakan Keselamatan Nasional Sdn Bhd (Company No. 166151-T) (“PKN”) as subcontractor to deliver the first 1.5 million old Malaysian Passport design booklets from 1 December 2016 until 31 May 2017 and a copy of draft agreement was sent to PKN based on DTSB offered price. PKN did not agree on DTSB offered price but continue to supply the old Malaysian Passport booklets in which time the pricing for each old Malaysian Passport booklet has still not been agreed upon by both parties.

As a result, no agreement was signed but PKN had decided to deliver the 1.5 million old Malaysian Passport designed booklets with full understanding that pricing were to be agreed upon at future date.

In the meantime, DTSB will continue to pursue for amicable settlement with PKN, failing which, DTSB will leave it to the court to determine the fair price.

The official launching of the new design Malaysian passport booklets from 4 icons to 12 icons that incorporated the design concept of flora and fauna, batik, songket and 5 National Principles of Malaysia (Rukun Negara) of which the old Malaysian Passport does not possess these feature was done in January 2018.

DTSB can counter sue....PKN

The Company wishes to announce that it has been made aware through TheEdge Financial Daily on Tuesday, 31 July 2018 that Percetakan Keselamatan Nasional Sdn Bhd (Company No. 166151-T) (“PKN”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fima Corporation Berhad (Company No. 21185-P) has launched legal action against DTSB, claiming RM24.98 million, although no such writ of summons has been received by DTSB up to the time of this announcement.



The claim is in relation to a disagreement between DTSB and PKN over the price of 1,500,000 Malaysian Passport booklets which was supplied by PKN to DTSB as DTSB’s sub-contractor for the interim period of 6 months from 1 December 2016 to 31 May 2017, before the Malaysian Passport booklets were fully printed by DTSB.



PKN is now claiming a sum of RM24,975,000.00 (excluding interest and cost). However, the final amount payable will be ascertain by the court. DTSB is of the opinion that the final settlement sum will be far less than what is claimed by PKN, as it has meritorious defences against the claim but would nevertheless disclose a contingent liability of approximately RM5 million as previously disclosed in the Company’s Circular to Shareholders dated 30 May 2018, should the court decide wholly in PKN’s favour.



PKN had voluntarily delivered the Malaysian Passport booklets to DTSB with full knowledge that the terms of the agreement between PKN and DTSB has not been agreed to between the parties and that the agreement has not been executed. Furthermore, the price of the Malaysian Passport booklets supplied by PKN to DTSB has not been agreed and is still the subject of negotiation.



The Company has instructed its solicitors to look into the matter and will make the appropriate announcements to Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad as and when there are material developments in relation thereof. As advised by the Company’s solicitors, the Company reserves all rights to claim against PKN for damages arising from the claim and is contemplating a counter-claim for the same.
