Hi AdCool, please correct me if I understand this incorrectly:
Current share price: RM2+ per share.
Dividend history: about 5c per share historically.
Return: about 2.5c to RM1? Since we need RM2+ to invest in one share.
Hence, 2.5% return p.a.? Appears lower than FD though..

http://www.thestar.com.my/News/Nation/2015/02/02/Proposals-wanted-for-rail-operation-Liow-Govt-calling-on-private-sector-to-invest/

JOHOR BARU: The Government has called on more interested companies to submit their proposals to operate the proposed multi-billion ringgit inter-city rail transit system in Iskandar Malaysia.

The ministry, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, welcomed investment and cooperation from the private sector for the proposed RM1.23bil project.

“We are currently reviewing and updating all proposals submitted by Masteel Bhd and KUB Malaysia Bhd since 2011 and we are open to more submissions.

“We want more companies to take this opportunity as KTMB (Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd) cannot manage the train services by themselves,” he said during the Johor Motorcycle and Scooter Traders Association’s Chinese New Year dinner last night.

The ministry, added Liow, would also speed up the reviewing process so as to submit an update of the project and recommend its retabling by this year.

Liow also said the introduction of multi operators for government railway tracks would maximise the utilisation of its rail assets and provide attractive alternative public transport services to commuting public.

The proposed system, he said, would also be complementary to the ongoing Gemas-Johor Baru double tracking project, the KL-Singapore high speed rail, Johor-Woodlands Rapid Transit System as well as the Bus Rapid Transit system for the economic corridor.

“I hope that with such development taking place, Johoreans can enjoy more economic growth,” he said.

The multi-billion ringgit project proposed by Metropolitan Commuter Network Sdn Bhd is a 60:40 joint venture between Masteel and KUB.

In 2009, MCN had proposed to construct a 30km double track railway line linking Kulai and Johor Baru city centre and a 50km link between Pasir Gudang and Port of Tanjung Pelepas using the existing tracks.

Earlier, Liow said MCA had set up a special liaison committee to act as a communication channel between investors and the Malaysian and Chinese governments.

The MCA International Trade Liaison Committee would facilitate trade activities between the two countries, said Liow, who is also party president.

“With the setting up of the committee, we are also confident of attracting more traders from China to invest in Malaysia,” he said after launching the MCA election strategy committee here yesterday.

PUTRAJAYA: Fuel subsidies for public transport vehicles and fishing vessels remain unchanged under the managed float system that will be implemented on Monday, Dec 1.

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Alias Ahmad (pic) said pump prices of diesel for those in the two sectors would remain at between RM1.68 and RM1.88 per litre.

He said under the super subsidy scheme, RM1.68 was the price for fishing vessels and RM1.88 was for public transport vehicles.

"They are holders of fleet cards and in the group of 11 types of vehicles that are entitled to the super subsidy scheme.

"Until there is a new announcement, fuel subsidies for these 11 types of vehicles and fishermen remain unchanged," he said after addressing the Ministry's town hall session on Budget 2015.

Among the 11 types of vehicles are taxis; school, express, stage and feeder buses; ambulances operated by voluntarily organisations, and hearses.

Alias also said the Government was still studying the fuel subsidy rationalisation programme, but could not reveal at what stage it was currently at.

"We are looking at several proposals," he said.

The Government announced last week that the retail price for RON95 petrol and diesel would be fixed on a managed float system, similar to that used for RON97 petrol.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Steel Works (KL) Bhd (Masteel) has received the green light from the Johor state government to proceed with the rail transit network project in the Iskandar Development Region.

“The company would proceed with the relevant state and Federal Government agencies for the necessary approvals,” said Masteel in a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday.

The announcement comes following a local news report on Monday which claimed that the project, which would be undertaken jointly between Masteel and KUB Malaysia Bhd, was unlikely to be approved by the state government.

Masteel had clarified on Monday that it had not received any notification from any ministries or government agencies indicating that the Iskandar commuter rail project “will not take off or will be scrapped or otherwise cancelled.”

Masteel and KUB had entered into a heads of joint venture agreement on Jan 19 to pursue the project in Iskandar, which will be undertaken via a joint venture company, Metropolitan Commuter Network Sdn Bhd.

Meanwhile, Masteel’s net profit for its second quarter ended June 30, was flat at RM10.10mil compared with RM10.13mil in the previous corresponding period, mainly due to a lower margin on a higher sales volume.

Revenue meanwhile increased to RM359.99mil from RM342.26mil, which was mainly attributed to higher sales volume, it told Bursa Malaysia in a separate statement.

For the six-month period ended June 30, net profit increased to RM17.38mil from RM13.68mil in the previous corresponding period, while revenue rose to RM697.67mil from RM672.30mil a year earlier. Masteel said the prospects for the strong flow of orders for the company’s products were expected to be favourable, while the prices for steel bars, billets and scrap were expected to fluctuate within a narrow band.
