Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has proposed a budget of Rp400.3 trillion (around US$25.5 billion) for infrastructure development in 2025, including the ongoing construction of Nusantara, the new national capital in East Kalimantan.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) announced this while presenting the 2025 State Budget Draft and Financial Notes during a plenary session of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Friday.

Beyond Nusantara, the infrastructure budget will be allocated for projects covering education, health, connectivity, food, and energy sectors.

Earlier, during the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) on Friday, Widodo emphasized that over the past decade, his administration has prioritized infrastructure construction in remote areas.

He noted that under his leadership, the government has built 366 thousand kilometers of village roads, 1.9 million meters of village bridges, and 2,700 kilometers of new toll roads.

Additionally, it has built 6 thousand kilometers of national roads, 50 ports and airports, 43 dams, and 1.1 million hectares of irrigation canals.

He stated that these developments allowed Indonesia to reduce logistics costs from 24 percent to 14 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2023 and improve the country's competitiveness.

In the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking, Indonesia's infrastructure rank rose to 27th in 2024 from 34th in 2023 and 44th in 2022.

The government has established 204 projects and 13 programs under National Strategic Projects (PSNs). Since 2016, 190 PSNs have been completed with an investment of Rp1,514 trillion (around US$96.61 billion).
