（怡保18日迅）本地玉蜀黍产量过剩，面对价格大跌及行情滞销的窘境，本地收购商抛赠1万8000条新鲜的珍珠玉蜀黍“益”街坊，分两轮约3个多小时派完，乐得街坊笑嘻嘻。
玉蜀黍多年来采用定价收购方式，目的让农民收入稳定，却吸引众多农民加入种植玉蜀黍行列，导致市场供过于求，农民被迫面对销路受阻的考验。
珠宝拱桥的玉蜀黍农夫兼收购商张德常今日运载120包，每包150条当地种植的珍珠玉蜀黍，到怡保大华戏院旧址，即奥林匹克学院前大赠送，免费送给公众享用。
平时送福利机构或亲友
张德常说，玉蜀黍产量过剩不是近期才出现的情况，平时过剩时，他也会送给福利机构或亲友，今次首次登报公开派发，希望公众尝到本季的玉蜀黍品质好，能主动到江沙路采购。
他说，公开免费玉蜀黍领取活动在怡保是头一回举行，吸引众多公众响应，前来领取玉蜀黍的公众不分老幼种族，大多为华裔年长者，有意再购买者可与他联系（012-5885282）。
公众担心空手回 场面一度失控
虽活动原订在中午12时，不过却临时提前在上午9时许开始，许多途经的路人列队领走早一批玉蜀黍，专程前来领取者见玉蜀黍快被领完，纷纷上前争抢场面一度失控。
第一轮的60包玉蜀黍约在上午11时30分取光，许多公众姗姗来迟不见玉蜀黍踪影，所幸在义工的协助下，再次排列出新的队伍等候，直到第二轮约12时40分送抵，约2时也派完。

平时常买玉蜀黍来烹调食用，从报纸看到免费派玉蜀黍，就过来拿一些带回家与家人分享。
