I invest not more than 5% of my cash in 1 company simply because I still believe there are at least 20 excellent dividend-paying listed companies.

Warren Buffet can walk into any company to check its account and talk to the management but we as retail investors can't. It has happened so many times already in Malaysia where companies announced fake results. I'd rather trust the financial results of Singapore companies than those of Malaysia companies simply because LKY doesn't allow corruption to happen in Singapore. Has any retail investor ever sued Transmile and Megan? The directors of these 2 companies are big time con men.

我和女儿针对这问题作了许多的思考,可惜还是找不到满意的答案。Should have sold all when in doubt. Both of you have fallen madly in love with Megan, which is the biggest mistake in share investment. Both of you tried very hard to find reasons to hold on to this sinking ship.

1. Avoid company which doesn't pay dividend after announcing huge profits for a couple of years. Buy only company which pays good part of the profits as dividend because hard $ needs to be credited into the shareholders' account.
2. Don't fall in love with any company.
3. Spread your risk. Don't buy more than 5 or 10% of your cash in 1 company depending on your financial standing. In my case. not more than 5% in 1 company.
Megan made an aggregate about RM1 in 03 and 04 but no dividend.

When Transmile earned 66 sen/share in 06, no dividend was proposed. A smart and serious investor should question as to why there was no dividend being proposed to the shareholders. Avoid this type of company.

I have been asking my friends to hold their fire whenever they find a good counter. Don't buy more than 15% of their cash in 1 counter. I have a friend who got burnt badly in Megan just like 8K. He bought circa 80% of his cash in 1 counter, ie Megan. Today he's totally lost confidence in share investment.

US has been printing about 4 trillion USD to save her ass. The abundant liquidity, the near zero interest rate and the low value of the USD spur worldwide frenzy of commodity and equity trading. The rally or the upswing in the prices of commodity and equity will come to an end not too far in the future when interest rate is pushed up by the FOMC and the USD gains in strength. When there's a capital flight back to the US, all hell breaks loose, commodity and equity prices will take a nosedive. Everybody will be running for cover.

Warren buffet keeps saying that he pays less tax relatively than people earning less than him. He also keeps saying that the tax structures in USA favour the rich people like him. He's 1 of the smartest guy on earth who understands tax structures thro' and thro'. By not declaring dividend, he actually save taxes for his investors. I invested in bond fund before when shares were flat from Jan to Dec. Prudential bond fund didn't declare any dividend at all so that investors wouldn't have to pay any tax. If an investor needed money, he or she could just sell some units.

I pity 8k, he was conned by the unscrupulous Megan's 'buayas'. We may be conned too. Never put all the eggs in 1 basket. I spread my investment out in about 20 companies. Aunloke is absolutely right. Beware of company like Sam E n E, good results but not a single sen of dividend. Avoid that type of company. I learn a beautiful quote today, 'Nobody cheats to give you money'. Always remember, we rear chicken for the eggs, we rear cow for the milk. We buy share for the dividend.

I fully agree that my outrageous words like nuts and bird's brain are too much and they hurt. I'm sorry for those hurtful words. I know of a unit trust company which charges 6.5% as initial fee and 1.5% as annual management fee for the fund. If the fund's performance is flat, then RM100,000 will become RM92,000 after one year. I want my friends to retire comfortably and I always remind them money is hard to come by. Spread your money in excellent counters and wait for say 5 years, I'm pretty sure own investment is better than unit trust investment.

tptan. Your investment results show that direct share investment beats unit trust investment hands down. There are still nuts with bird's brain out there who still think that unit trust investment is better.

Don't buy unit trust, it's better to open a CDS a/c with any stockbroker and then do the investment yourself. BTW, when I say investment, I mean long term investment. You'll not regret for heeding my advice.

A friend told me that when MAS and Singapore Airline went seperate way when Singapore was kicked out of the federation, the chairperson of the Singapore Airline was summoned to meet with LKY. He was told in no uncertain term that the airline business is very tough and he is to manage it diligently and professionally and don't expect the Singapore government to bail it out. I don't have to elaborate more as any right-minded person knows what has gone wrong with MAS.

BN/UMNO has been governing this country for over 5 decades, it is high time we let PR have a chance to show what it can do for us. A woman prawn noodle seller in town has married 3 times, and on the third time, she gets a very good husband. She can change her husband twice, why can't Malaysians change the government once?

To buy MAS shares now is to hope that it'll get better. It certainly is a deviation from the basic principle of investing, that's to invest only in solid companies for the long term.

Always remember that the settlement price is based on the average closing price of the mother share 5 days prior to the settlement date. It's disadvantage to the retail investors that in Malaysia, the settlement price is not based on the weighted 5-day average price. So a merchant bank just needs to sell strongly in the very last few seconds before 4.50 pm of those 5 days to suppress the price of the mother share. By doing so, the merchant bank may not have to issue any settlement cheque at all to the call warrant holders. In other words, the merchant banker forces the call warrant to be out of money. It happened 2 weeks ago when a MBSB call warrant matured.
