The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has allocated RM3.2 billion under the Universal Services Provision (USP) Fund this year to improve the quality of broadband services, particularly in rural areas.
The fund will be utilised to upgrade existing transmission stations, as well as to provide fibre optics infrastructure to related premises, said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The initiative is part of the RM20 billion PEMERKASA stimulus package which Muhyiddin announced in a televised address today. The package includes RM11 billion in fiscal injection by the government.
The prime minister said Malaysia could expect 5G services to begin operating in stages from the end of this year.
"The MyDIGITAL framework and Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint have underlined commercial 5G services as an essential need, as high-speed internet is key to spur innovation and new employment opportunities in the nation's digital economy," he said.

"The government has decided to relook at the NAP 2020 over EVs and go all out in terms of offering fiscal incentives. Customised incentives will be replaced with explicit, menu-based incentives, specifically for the EV sub-sector, according to the chief executive officer (CEO) of Malaysia Automotive, Robotics, and IoT Institute (MARii) Datuk Madani Sahari.
“There have been a lot of engagements between the government and the OEMs (original equipment manufacturers). They want to bring more investments into Malaysia in EV technology, but they require measures that are more robust and specific to EV.
“We have been listening and engaging the industry,” says Madani.
Time is running out. The EV sub-sector urgently requires a comprehensive and specific policy tailored to the needs of the industry — if the automotive sector is to grow. Some caution it may already be too little too late for Malaysia to catch up."

Hi @zeroknowledge420, from the recent articles in The Star: With the successful bid, DNEX will acquire 60% of SilTerra while their partner Beijing CGP will acquire the remaining 40%.
It has been reported that China is looking to invest over USD1 trillion to become self-sufficient in producing their own chips and that, and I quote Syed Zainal, "Our partner, Beijing CGP has a stable of companies in the semiconductor and chip industry and the would provide SilTerra with access to the markets".
