LONDON — Ryanair reported a full-year net loss of 815 million euros ($989 million) on Monday as Covid-19 restrictions saw its traffic levels slide 81%.
Analysts had forecast a net loss of 933 million euros for the 12 months ending in March, according to Refinitiv.
The budget airline said the new fiscal year “continues to be challenging, with uncertainty around when and where Covid lockdowns and travel restrictions will be eased.”
And this is for a airline operating in markets that have high vaccination rate

Singapore says it’s ‘very likely’ planned travel bubble with Hong Kong will be further delayed
https://www.cnbc.com/2021/05/14/singapore-covid-hong-kong-travel-bubble-likely-delayed-new-restrictions.html
SINGAPORE — Singapore’s government said Friday it’s “very likely” that the air travel bubble with Hong Kong will not begin on May 26, as the Southeast Asian city-state further tightens measures to curb a rise in local Covid cases.
The air travel bubble would have allowed travelers to skip quarantine. It has faced multiple delays from its initial launch date on November 2020 as Hong Kong reported resurgence in Covid-19 cases.
Both Singapore and Hong Kong are major Asian business hubs without domestic air travel markets. Their tourism and aviation industries, heavily reliant on international travel, have been badly hit by the pandemic.

Dr David Nabarro, a special envoy on Covid-19 for the World Health Organization, warned the “majority of the world is heading into a very, very dark period”.
He told BBC Radio 4’s World at One programme:
This pandemic is fearsome and it’s accelerating faster than ever and it’s a global phenomenon. There are a few countries that are able to demonstrate that they’ve got much lower levels of disease and they’re actually feeling that they’re recovering, but the majority of the world is heading into a very, very dark period. The reason why it’s particularly dark is that now we don’t have the full data because more and more the pandemic is spreading in places where testing is not available, so the numbers that we have we know are a major under-estimate. It’s bigger than ever, it’s fiercer than ever and it’s causing more distress than ever, this is a bad phase.

Vietnam intensifies border checks to stem 'very worrisome' Covid-19 outbreak
https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/vietnam-intensifies-border-checks-to-stem-very-worrisome-covid-19-outbreak
HANOI (BLOOMBERG) - Vietnam has ordered a strict border control after lengthening the quarantine period as it traces the recent flare up in coronavirus cases to overseas travellers.
During a virus task force meeting on Tuesday (May 4) afternoon, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam ordered an intensified checks on arriving travellers, according to a post on a government website. Authorities will also go "district by district, house by house" and visit companies hosting overseas workers to contain any spread.
The government is bracing for a scenario where 30,000 people could be infected, Dam said, adding that the number is meant for preparation and not a forecast. There had been reports that many places weren't strictly implementing quarantine rules, which fuelled the recent spike in cases, Mr Dam said.
