“It’s a turning point in the way people perceive OPEC, that this so-called cartel is not really driving prices,” said Jeff Colgan, a professor at Brown University’s Watson Institute for International Studies who researches the geopolitics of energy. “The real story is going to be about the fracking industry. How much pain can North American producers take?”.....extract from Bloomberg

Some shale extraction shut down n US looking for lower cost wells/shale to stay afloat with low crude.Ironical part US booming with low crude Dow exploding. This time winter very severe so more energy needed. Since crude low so now US is using huge vessel (cost wise expensive) to transport crude from d cold North.

Eversendai and WCT affected by weaker prospects in the Middle East market
by Sharon Kong, shatronkong@theborneopost.com. Posted on December 24, 2014, Wednesday
KUCHING: Malaysian companies such as Eversendai Corporation Bhd (Eversendai) and WCT Holdings Bhd (WCT) have been affected by weaker prospects in the Middle East market.
According to RHB Research Institute Sdn Bhd (RHB Research), the recent collapse in crude oil prices will have negative bearing on oil wealth and hence impede the ability of certain oil exporting countries in the Middle East to continue with their spending on lavish projects.
This does not augur well for Eversendai, it said, which derives about 80 per cent of its revenue and 50 per cent of its profits from that region.
“Its current order backlog of RM1.6 billion will only lend earnings visibility over the next 18 months,” it said.

WCT & Eversendai having many projects in middle east r all slowing down due to drop in crude price so d talk of 20 is just for d sake of talking.Arabs r solely dependant on oil for survival but US now seeing d power of low price which is booming their economy.US now shifting to scoop oil from lower cost wells. This time winter is going to be very severe so oil price bouncing is possible? For Suma there may be one more bounce b4 4Q is out???

The biggest oil producers outside OPEC are the U.S. and Russia.
Oil fell about 20 percent since OPEC chose to maintain its production target at a Nov. 27 meeting, seeking to defend market share rather than prices. The highest U.S. crude output in at least three decades is contributing to a glut that Qatar estimates at 2 million barrels a day. Saudi Arabia is confident prices will rebound as economic growth boosts demand and “inefficient producers” trim output, Al-Naimi said.

Brent crude was up 19 cents at US$60.30 a barrel.
Analysts said expectations of firm US economic data later in the day had pushed prices higher.
"The focus of today would likely come from US durable orders and US GDP figures. Durable goods orders depict a strong manufacturing sector which implies a higher industrial use of crude oil," said Singapore-based Phillip Futures in a report on Tuesday.
"With the US economy picking up, we expect the figures to be favourable."
