I am truly surprise that Bjland not issuing dividend anymore since 2014. Before 2010, the dividends were fat.

Another big name in the board is Abang Johari's son (the premier only has a son and a daughter). https://www.nst.com.my/business/2023/08/941409/sarawak-premiers-son-abang-abdillah-joins-berjaya-land-board. Not sure what significant role will he play that positively contribute to Berjaya Land development. My imagination may stretch too far: why not grant Berjaya the online numbering license in Sarawak. The far more secular and progressive state government will welcome any income to fund its infrastructure projects.

2.5 million shares, very hard to tell which direction VT (despite now being the minority shareholder on paper) will be going into. YTL has flied high, hopefully BJLand will follow.

Hopefully the performance of the previous quarter can be green, and VT and the CEO can be kind enough to declare dividend for us. Appreciate.

As VT is no longer the major shareholder, the public shareholding spread should be about 16++%, right?
2023-04-07 16:26 | Report Abuse
VT and the gang should have a chance to push the price up for few rounds within the six months. It is a shame for not privatizing BJLand. It comes so close and market has been anticipating for the moment, starting when the price was still at 0.60++. Privatizing BJLand allows the release of value for the next stage: huge land banks for development, Iceland hotel chain IPO, potentially online betting license etc.

Curiously, BJland always gets extension to fulfill the spread.

BJCorp holds 80% of BJLand were always moving in tandem. Previously, BJLand was even valued much higher (by the market) than BJCorp. Now no longer the case, BJLand is made a forgotten child stuffed with sleeping management.

While I don't think the parent company needs to be shariah-compliant, I agree it is important for VT to separate the gaming business from BJCorp entirely as soon as possible, so the products are politically correct to embrace the Muslim market (especially their increasingly religion-oriented sentiments).
2022-12-29 09:27 | Report Abuse
Why BJCorp needs to be syariah compliant? BJFood is syariah compliant, but BJCorp needs not, same goes for the (if) KAF acquisition.

Instead of squeezing ikan bilis and time and again empty promises to shareholders, If VT focuses his attention to his businesses and grooming next generation of management, his wealth would have grown by tenfold. What a sad story. Time to change.

Thanks for the info. Not sure why VT still have no desire to privatize BJLand? He should have holding about 90 to 95% of the stock (including many that have been transferred undisclosed party) by now. What is he waiting?

Based on the BJLand financial report 2017 ( https://docplayer.net/228105985-Berjaya-land-berhad-company-no-a-table-of-contents-condensed-consolidated-statement-of-financial-position-1-2.html ), BJLand was still holding the share of SIAMH. Really curious why no announcement being made by BJLand.

Based on the annual report 2019, Berjaya Leisure was still under BJLand. " On 1 March 2019, BLand announced that TPC Development Ltd (“TPCDev”), a wholly-owned subsidiary company of Berjaya Leisure (Cayman) Limited (“BLCL”), which in turn, is a wholly- owned subsidiary company of BLand..... page 11"

I like about Jalil as the way he handles BJ hits all the right notes (for the time being). And he is rather "transparent" in letting the public knows his plan. However, as public largely having mistrust to BJ due to VT's habitual empty promises (unlist BJLand) and misleading grand plans (e.g. Vielott is a gold mine), many are still skeptical on anything associated with BJ. Jalil, as the new generation of CEO in the information-age, should learn from the mistakes from his predecessor. Delisting BJLand is linchpin to Jalil's ambition to streamline the businesses and unlock the value. Giving a fair and reasonable exit plan sooner to minority is a win-win situation for BJ, Jalil and minority shareholders, He should give a clear cut into the matter. Least wanted is to be like previous management, dilly dally and undecisive. For so many years, indeed tiring hitting around the bush in an endless loop.

Jalil lacks of vision/growing factors/hope in his plan. While streamlining and cost reduction is the most important, good vision brings hope. AirAsia sustains because of Tony's vision and hope.

Transfer the BJtoto to BJcorp, pay BjLand with cash + 3B the holding BJLand shares which can either be kept as treasury share or bonus shares to BJLand shareholders. One stone two birds: restructure the group and solve the public spread issue. The downside will be BJLand will be value less. My two cents

There are an increasing number of property and land acquisitions in these few months, as many cash-rich companies local or overseas are going for strategic investment. All the best for BJLand.

When BJLand stepped across the boundary of public shareholding spread? If my memory serves me well, it was when BJCorp bought about 5% from Penta in the early 2019. Halfway VT transferred a chunk of his share to someone(?) to avoid the issue, then after few months, he started to accumulate and hence cross the line again. BJLand may have received three to to four times extension of six months since 2019. It is like a never ending story, tormenting many minority shareholders along the way. To the denial of the board later, VT had publicly promised to privatize BJLand with a good exit price. The management did not show any good effort to resort the issue, but continuing buying in 7-Eleven and land. Hopefully the curtain can be finally closing. No one wishes to further dragging the matter, especially for a company acting as the linchpin to the mother company with a new CEO and vision.

VT and the gang has been pressing down the price for more than five years from RM1 to RM0.150. I believe they have collected good number to have a MGO. Hope they will be give a fair and reasonable exit price for the remaining shareholders who trust his promise.

Now will be a good time for VT and Jalil to privatize Bjland. Bursa will have to revise and tighten regulation soon due to recent incident involving the manipulation of many penny stocks by the major shareholders.

If you look into the lives many businessmen, far more successful than VT, donated more monies to the society and the poor. Their upmost principles are always related to integrity and keeping the promise.

VT and BOD need to display more efforts and walk the talk to restore the faith of the market. Buyers are still weary of significant drop of the price, moving away from the counter as soon as possible in fear of being trapped. On the long run, VT is at the losing end. Just look at AirAsia (still RM1.00), the shareholders rally behind the company even it is PN17 and affected by yet-to-go-away pandemic. Regardless how many IPOs VT plans to have in the future, they will be poorly received as long as there is no faith from the market. Another implication will be talents will not stay in a company that is not progressing.

Despite (sadly) that BjLand does not catch up with BjCorp, the best and most rational restructuring plan has to start with Bjland privatization. All businesses are unnecessarily overlapped and intertwined in these two listed companies (hospitality, property, number forecast, retailing etc), making management at all levels inefficient and lackluster. Privatization will open the door for all possibilities, and most importantly restoring faith of the market.

Contributing almost 70% of the BJCorp revenue and assets, privatization of BJLand makes great business sense as the cost saving and gain in asset redistribution would be tremendous. It should have been within the VT (or new CEO)'s game plan. Hope shareholders would be offered a fair and reasonable price. Let quickly clear this up and move on to the restructuring plan. Mr. Jalil has the power and will.

It is interesting to note that BJLand has made several impairment losses on GMOC. Notably 2018 about RM155mil impairment till the recent 2020. These impairments should be reversed once the remaining sum, about RM600mil++ is received. Hope it is true. What do you think Kahhoeng?

BJLand should be much higher than BJCorp. The gap seems widen between the two. BJLand could be up in the second much stronger wave, as logically, the price of the mother share has to move up first. And, the rumours is the money from GMOC will soon to return specifically to BJLand (unlike previous magic show on the jeju project's compensation). I have been waiting for more than four years, buying on the empty promises by VT.

Some disappointment for Berjaya Land not go for privatization, after so many years of promoting such direction by VT. Even as a small shareholder, I could see the privatization could lead to restructuring of the conglomerate to be leaner and meaner, hence better market valuation of its potential. Clearly, VT and BOD (and us) are not in the same page.
