Wow I cannot believe how rude and insensible the comment above mine is - when now is the time to be supporting one another.

"strong" and "good" financial results? very understated - i call it a monster performance.
41% revenue growth and 30% earnings growth yoy, guys. Let's call it what it is :)

Lower stock price does not indicate lower value or lower capitalisation. Need to multiply by shares outstanding and compare the market cap directly, not comparing share price.

Nobody gives two fugs on what price you predict or what stick you cut. Small time gambler compared to those with significant % of their net worth invested.

Wong has been perpetually buying MYEG. What's weird is despite all the buying, price remains flat. Retailers have been selling also?

Sometimes, people don't participate in forum banters - doesn't mean they're newbies. Me for one a long-only shareholder, a silent observer, most of the time amuse myself reading short term traders' boastful comments :)

@mikekim "As indicated earlier, MYEG has lost focus on its core business, trying to do everything that is hit chasing trends. They have 5-10 side businesses now, many of which do not contribute revenue, but just costs money."
MYEG has characteristics of a prolific "spawner" business model, same as all the tech companies like Google, Alibaba, Facebook, Baidu, Amazon, Tencent, etc. All ventured into side businesses also that does not even make money yet. Alibaba has been bleeding money on its cloud for years. Same with Google and Baidu, both bleeding money on autonomous vehicle outfits Waymo and Apollo. Amazon too has incubated many startups and all of which are eating money.
But the common characteristics of all is, they all have solid balance sheet, highly profitable core business which allows significant cashflow for safety and also buffer/coffer for them to be entrepreneurial and find the next big growth catalyst for their business. In fact, it is also what Airasia is trying to emulate - however, it's trying to do it with a significantly damaged and weak core travel business.
I wouldn't call it diversification for the sake of diversification - but rather, finding the next growth engine. And that's the responsibility of every responsible business to their shareholders (us), which is to create and grow value.

Really love this management. Very shrewd, opportunistic, and creative in adding new streams of revenue that's highly scalable. And even more importantly, executes all their strategies superbly!

Why surprise? Their margin has been really impressive even through pandemic and slow economy. Bank made profits and their net worth increased. Historically BIMB enjoys a 50% premium to its book value, so increased book value only moves the valuation up :)
2020-11-30 14:16 | Report Abuse
Banks are typically valued on it's net worth book value.
HLFG's historical 10 year average PB is at 1.1x.
Assuming a reversion to historical average PB..
HLFG is worth at least 21 /share to me.
Steady compounder for those who can see.
Only 3 banks in Malaysia consistently achieving ROE more than 10%.
HLFG is one of them.

Can you share the basis/assumption in your valuation DaitoRyu? Am guessing you must be using highly conservative figures to arrive at overvaluation.

Urmm.. as majority owners, Tony and Din are definitely not just 5% each lol. Not sure how EPF and PNB can simply.. you know what, it's ok, I'm not sure if I can help you if you even got Din Meranun's name wrong >.< @JJchan

@JJchan you just contradicted yourself in your comments :) What you're saying is that Tony and Din have skin in the game and they eat from the same bowl they shat on. So obviously they will have a lot at stake to right the boat, or their personal fortune is at risk. They are not born billionaire, but they are self-made entrepreneurs - they think long term.

Magni has grown annual profits by 20% for many years. If we just assume a conservative 10% growth in next 5 years, assigning a PE10, further discounted by 15% for any margin of error.. Magni is valued at 3.2.
Even with very conservative valuation, valuing Magni at 3.2 suggesting we have more than 30% undervaluation at current price 2.1.

Buffett been investing for over 60-70 years averaging 20% per annum. It’s 20% increase of his portfolio worth billions every year. Not per with small rm500 per trades ya.
His airlines sold at a loss of US2 billion plus. Big for normal people like us. But 2 billion loss is merely 1% out of his portfolio and 0.44% of his company worth. Important to understand total context for him lol.
Not saying people should copy either. His disposal or airlines is purely consistent with his principles. At the moment he doesn’t hv visibility on how airlines will make money. N something that he cannot fully understand, he doesn’t want to own. Simple as that.
2020-05-06 13:37 | Report Abuse
Yes I know precisely how much is cash, shares, and earnings from operating company. Yes he is holding a huge pile of cash, about 25% from company's market cap. But he did not sell anything other than airlines. He's protecting his reserves by not buying either because he still feels market is overvalued. I'm a long-time shareholder of Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway company here. He just had his Q1 presentation last Sunday, so I'm definitely quoting latest updates here.
I was referring to Apple168's statement on 5/5/2020 saying Buffett dumped most of his shares, which is not accurate :)

One thing that author miss is Airasia's growing non-airlines revenues. Airasia is very unlike other pure airlines in that sense, and one needs to first understand Airasia's business culture, its new ventures and have a long term view beyond 5 years to own Airasia.
I would applaud the owners' foresight and decisive call to transform company into asset/capital light structure which turns out to have helped tremendously on hindsight. No right or wrong, but to dispose Airasia now just because Buffett has grown pessimistic about the airlines industry is just herd mentality.

Wow HLFG including banks, insurance, investment arms.. as a corporation, has 6x cash more than debt. At current price, it's 75% below it's book value also. My view, HLFG is better than HLB today.
2020-05-05 13:29 | Report Abuse
Warren Buffett's disposal of airlines at 6 Bil represents only 3% of his portfolio holdings, and 1.3% of his company's market cap. He has not been buying, he has not been selling anything else. Don't simply quote without facts.

Stock: [MAGNI]: MAGNI-TECH INDUSTRIES BHD
2021-08-12 12:14 | Report Abuse
Taking recent 2020 net profit at 118 mil, at PE 8x, we'd get price per share price of 2.17 - very close to current price now. Adding a huge net cash 334 mil, (per share of 0.77), MAGNI's price should be 2.17 + 0.77 = 2.94 at minimum.
If you assume PE 10x, it would be even higher.
Assuming MAGNI, continues to distribute 35% of profits for dividend, that's 4% dividend yield on current price of 2.20.
Without even counting growth in the next 2-3 years (note that MAGNI has grown its earnings by 22% CAGR past 10 years and 8% pa past 5 years), assuming MAGNI takes 3 years to reach 2.94 price, holding MAGNI at 2.20 today would give you return of 14.5% return per annum, inclusive of the 4% dividend yield each year.
This is real investing at works.
