john0909 what is that revolving credit - unsecured 240,000mil?
Just think of rev credit as a much bigger form of bank OD. Petron needs it as it's working capital has increased reducing "Cash flow from operations" by a whopping RM368m

xiong87 - This is my waterloo with my average cost @ 3.65, I'm sitting on massive losses. I'm personally worried that even at this level, the co has not stepped in to buyback shares.
However the quarterly dividends is like a balm that soothes the losses a little. If you want some excitement in life then go for more!

xiong87 How you all look at resolution 9 - to renew authority for the comp to purchase its own shares on 12 Oct?
Standard resolution. It's good to give the board the mandate because it enables the Co to buyback their own shares if in it's opinion it's undervalued

I hope so but don't count the chickens before they hatch - you know how corporate maneuverings can sometimes surprise even the most astute players

This company is characterised by low dividends with low price. Now the results are pathetic. Myanmar expansion is further eroding cash flows.

KLK is trading at 24++.
Batu Kawan, trading at 17++, enjoyed current quarter profits, YTD profits, PE and dividend yield far better than KLK.

But on near term projection, will the profit margin higher than previous quarter when the crude oil price is lower? - Good question but I've proper answer except only to say that there are 2 opposing factors as mentioned earlier - increased spreads vs increased cost.
I'm actually more concerned about the transparency. I feel that Petron investors need proper disclosure as to which specific stations belong to this listed vehicle because theoretically, the management could perform backroom tricks to shuffle them around to our detriment.

BetorInvest - Although increase in crude prices will increase crack spreads which is positive for Petron's margins, I understand that it's a double-edged sword.
The cost of refining the crude goes up as well since the process entails consumption of part of the pricey crude that's being refined.

I thought Euro 4 is a diesel requirement. RON 95 is petrol.
2018-07-23 16:08 | Report Abuse
I attended the recent AGM & they showed a graph indicating that the crack spread increases with increase in crude prices. Hence a rise in oil price should be positive for petron.
2018-07-13 22:52 | Report Abuse
At yesterday's closing, the PE was a mere 4.8!!! So rightfully there should be a lot of room for the price to increase.

The absence of GST & the possibility of release from the najib tax charge may be driving up the price.
Maybe to settle the 0.5b najib tax, Magnum could contribute to Tabung Harapan a stipend.

Sardin - you're right on that point.
However there are structural issues of governance. The top management are naturally beholden to the Philippine parent co. In addition, (as per directors' report), they own large chunks of San Miguel Corp. Therefore they are incentivised to ensure that the sisters Petron Fuel Int & Petron Oil register more profits by a combination of picking up lesser that their share of expenses and more than their fair share of revenue.

Among others - Euro 5 upgrade & opening of new stations would consume about 600m & yada yada yada.
But here's the realisation.... Are you aware that about half the stations belong to the sister co PFI? Now here's the kicker ... PFI is wholly-owned by San Miguel

with the price of oil rising & no corresponding increase in petrol prices, Petron will once again suffer from margin compression & it'll affect the bottomline.

I bumped into an ex-lecturer of mine. Asked whether he invests in the stock market and he responded with an appropriate comment. Never invest in a company which requires a Recurring RPT approval - which is all listed companies.
It got me thinking. Even if there's a sweet-heart deal in there which milks the plc, nobody can really spot it.
Do you think that TVT is that immoral and cheapskate to milk BToto at the expense of minority shareholders like us?
Comments most welcome.

Dec 2017 quarter's EPS = 36.9 sen
Anybody wants to estimate what will be Petron's EPS for the 1st quarter of 2018?

Although markets are supposedly efficient, it's hard to subscribe to this when extrapolating the latest EPS, the share price at 8.37 is only trading at 5.6++ times.
There must be something that fund managers are seeing but we are not.
