news with regard to auto industry
Malaysian vehicle sales to grow 4.2% in 2014
Market research firm, Frost and Sullivan, has predicted Malaysian vehicle sales to grow by 4.2% year-on-year to 675,000 units in 2014 from the 648,000 units projected for last year.
Asia-Pacific Partner and Head of the Automotive and Transportation Practice, Kavan Mukhtyar, said the projected increase in total industry volume this year was due to positive economic conditions, introduction of new models and implementation of the new National Automotive Policy (NAP). The NAP is the industry roadmap for improving competitiveness, increasing investments and export growth.
"The revised NAP, expected to be announced in the middle of this month, would be one of the catalysts to take the local industry forward through a two-pronged approach and transform Malaysia into a production hub for energy-efficient vehicles (EEV)," he told a media briefing on the outlook for the country's motor vehicle industry this year.
He said there would be more clarity on the direction of the local car industry after the NAP announcement.
"The incentives for EEV are likely to cover greater basket of vehicles instead of just hybrids and localisation commitment having potential to reduce prices," he said. - Bernama
