Who do you think had maintained crude prices around USD100 for the last 3-4 years until IS flare up ?

Demand for oil is constantly on the rise, supply is depending on the pump, but the diminishing new oil field discovery is a definite scenario. US is depending on new technology to rework depleted old oil fields and also created some from shale formation, but ultimately they will also hit a bottleneck in supplies in the near future.

Sun...I am not an expert in world oil price, but I do know one thing, the oil prices started to come down when IS create havoc in Iraq and syria; IS is selling as much as they can from the captured territory, so are Syrian and Iraqi government...on one objective only, to fund the war. This three are flooding the market place and OPEC cartel cannot stop this as it has no control over it.

The geopolitics are easing the burden of the rest of the non producing world. The so call secular bear trend is only hogwash to me. Once IS is beatened back, it will be beaten back, as no one can beat US and Euro joint military effort. OPEC will exert its influence and oil will be back up there, whether you like it or not, and for a very long time...US will probably also want the oil price to be high as they are net producer now, thanks to shale oil.

sun...your arguments has flaws...first, you keep saying the crude price is USD75, for 2015, as you quote it from GS...but GS is the biggest con funds in the world, how true is their projection, I believe they themselves dare not guarantee you.

This SRP ( subsidies rationalization programme ) is the first step towards removing the subsidies mindset of the people. One cannot expect the government to remove it completely in one go, a 50 yrs addiction !

The mechanics of pricing a litre of petrol to the consumer is not s linear direct comparative to a litre of crude oil sold in the market. The bulk of refinery, transportation, marketing and profit cost needs to be built into the pricing. So at USD75 a barrel...the government might still need to subsidise our petrol, albeit to a much lower extent.

The current 2.30 a litre will hold till june next year, base on what the minister said, so I believe a review will be done after that, and if the actual price is lower, the subsidised petrol will be lower too, so it will be a dynamic setting, not as static as you presumed. The lower income group will be seen to be protected by the government, the reality on the ground; purely Malaysian politics.

It make common sense if the scheme were to be used...a mycard owner who file a tax return with gross income of 60k-120k or below, and must be a registered owner of a valid vehicle and a valid driving license...if not, you are legally not allowed to drive...if you are not legally allowed to drive, why you need petrol subsidies ?

People tend to be confused by crude price and petrol price at the pump, where the pricing is related but not similar...crude price determine only part of petrol price at the pump...and a high percentage goes to refinery, delivery and marketing cost.

How the price comes about is not our issue , when the government tell you this is the price one need to pay for that liter of RON95...you pay that amount...Everytime you go pump petrol, watch out for that small piece of card, put at the pump, it tells you how much government subsidised you... currently at 2.30 a liter, the government subsidised 27 sen a liter for RON95, as the non subsidised one is at 2.57.
