KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 11): Former UMNO lawmaker Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed has resigned as the chairman of Fast Energy Holdings Bhd (previously known as Techfast Holdings Bhd) effective Monday (Jan 10).
Nur Jazlan, 55, who helmed the company since November 2020, resigned due to his other personal commitments, the company said in a bourse filing.
The announcement comes a day after another listed company, Kanger International Bhd, reported the resignation of Nur Jazlan as its chairman for the same reason.
Nur Jazlan, who is Johor UMNO deputy chief, was previously the member of parliament for Pulai.
He served as deputy home affairs minister from July 2015 to May 2018, and as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee between June 2013 and July 2015.
Fast Energy's share price settled 0.5 sen or 4.55% lower at 10.5 sen on Tuesday, valuing the company at RM58.08 million.

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 11): Top Glove Corp Bhd founder and executive chairman Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai has resigned as Tropicana Corp Bhd’s chairman, effective Tuesday (Jan 11).
Lim, 64, who currently holds 162.21 million direct shares in the group, resigned in view of his other commitments, according to a bourse filing. Lim had acquired the shares in Tropicana in October 2017 from Tan Sri Danny Tan Chee Sing and his two related companies, Golden Diversity Sdn Bhd and Aliran Firasat Sdn Bhd.
Before he was made chairman in 2019, Lim was a non-independent non-executive director of Tropicana, a position he held since 2017. He does not have any family relationship with any directors or major shareholders of Tropicana, or any conflict of interest with the group, according to Tropicana’s 2020 annual report.
Lim’s chairmanship of Tropicana raised eyebrows when in December 2020 the property developer bought RM78.47 million worth of Top Glove shares, as it maintained that the acquisition would allow it to capitalise on the glove maker whose long-term prospects it deemed favourable given the then increased global demand for gloves owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
However in April 2021, Tropicana sold its Top Glove shares at a loss when it disposed of 1.85 million shares for RM9.98 million. Proceeds from the sale were for working capital for property development activities.
According to a filing to Bursa on April 16 last year, Tropicana held 12.47 million shares or 0.16% in Top Glove via its wholly-owned unit Desiran Realiti Sdn Bhd.
Shares of Tropicana closed up two sen or 1.92% to RM1.06 on Tuesday, valuing the property developer at RM1.56 billion.

Calling Omicron ‘mild’ a mistake, warns WHO
The Omicron variant of Covid-19 is killing people across the globe and should not be dismissed as mild, the World Health Organization (WHO) insisted Thursday.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the record numbers of people catching the new variant – which is rapidly out-competing the previously-dominant Delta variant in many countries – meant hospitals were being overwhelmed.
“While Omicron does appear to be less severe compared to Delta, especially in those vaccinated, it does not mean it should be categorised as mild,” Tedros told a press conference.
“Just like previous variants, Omicron is hospitalising people and it is killing people,” he explained.
“In fact, the tsunami of cases is so huge and quick, that it is overwhelming health systems around the world.”
Just under 9.5 million new Covid-19 cases were reported to WHO last week – a record, up 71% on the week before.
But even this was an underestimate, Tedros said, as it did not reflect the backlog of testing around the Christmas-New Year holidays, positive self-tests not registered, and overburdened surveillance systems missing cases.
