Let us stop trading for 1 week. To stop the revenue collected by the government, in protest of government's constantly damaging the share market by rolling out various race biased policies and thus driving foreign investors away.

Global COVID-19 cases rise for 4th straight week

https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2021/03/global-covid-19-cases-rise-4th-straight-week

In its latest weekly snapshot of global COVID-19 activity, the World Health Organization (WHO) said yesterday that cases rose for the fourth week in a row, led by cases in the Americas and Europe, with deaths now leveling off after a 6-week drop.

Though much of the rise was spread across four of the WHO's regions, rises were especially steep in certain countries, such as India, where cases were up by 35% over the previous week.

Salem police urge people to avoid Capitol area due to protest, counterprotest

The Salem Police Department is urging residents and visitors to stay away from the Capitol Mall area due to a protest, and saying that 150 to 200 heavily armed participants are in the area.

Opposing protestors are expected to arrive in large numbers, increasing the risk to public safety, according to a tweet from the SPD at about 2:30 p.m.

The agency announced on Twitter that it had received reports that vehicles driving past the Capitol are being struck with balloons filled with paint and green lasers are being pointed at drivers.

Those observing criminal behavior should immediately move to a safe location and call 911, according to the SPD.

Using the pretext of "forced labor" to pressure and sanction other countries' companies has been an old trick by the US, which is now exerting extreme pressure on companies in cotton-related industries in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Apart from creating lies about "forced labor", anti-China forces in the US and the West have also released reports, held hearings and taken other measures to slander China's Xinjiang policies. They have also tried to draw US and European companies, including Adidas and Nike, into their campaign. They have also persuaded the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), a nongovernmental organization with head offices in Geneva and London that aims to promote better standards in cotton farming, to suspend licensing in China's Xinjiang region, even though it contradicts the results of its own Shanghai office's investigations.

The Star

KUALA LUMPUR: The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has directed personnel at all US ports of entry to begin seizing disposable gloves produced by Top Glove Corp Bhd in Malaysia.

This comes after the CBP Office of Trade published a forced labour finding against disposable gloves produced in Malaysia by Top Glove in the Customs Bulletin and in the Federal Register.

“Today’s forced labor finding is the result of a months-long CBP investigation aimed at preventing goods made by modern slavery from entering US commerce.

“CBP will not tolerate foreign companies’ exploitation of vulnerable workers to sell cheap, unethically-made goods to American consumers," said Troy Miller, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the CBP Commissioner, in a statement released today.

The finding expands upon a Withhold Release Order (WRO) that the CBP issued in July 2020, which was based on reasonable but inconclusive information that there were elements of forced labour in Top Glove's production process.

These included debt bondage, excessive overtime, abusive working and living conditions, and retention of identity documents.

Bernama reported that Top Glove's US counsels are liaising with representatives from the US CBP to obtain more clarity and information on CBP’s recent Finding Information Document.

Indonesia and Malaysia plan to mount a joint offensive to shore up the palm oil industry against criticism of the deforestation and conflicts associated with the production of the commodity.
The leaders of the two countries allege that the EU, which plans to phase out palm-based biodiesel as a renewable energy, is discriminating to protect its own vegetable oil producers.
Top government and industry leaders in Indonesia have declared a “black campaign” against their European competitors and against Indonesian NGOs calling for a more sustainable palm oil industry.
Activists have expressed dismay at the prospect of a PR war, saying the money and effort would be better spent on bringing actual reforms aimed at sustainability.

He Built a $10 Billion Investment Firm. It Fell Apart in Days.
Banks were eager to do business with Bill Hwang and his Archegos Capital Management — until he ran out of money.

Until recently, Bill Hwang sat atop one of the biggest — and perhaps least known — fortunes on Wall Street. Then his luck ran out.

Mr. Hwang, a 57-year-old veteran investor, managed $10 billion through his private investment firm, Archegos Capital Management. He borrowed billions of dollars from Wall Street banks to build enormous positions in a few American and Chinese stocks. By mid-March, Mr. Hwang was the financial force behind $20 billion in shares of ViacomCBS, effectively making him the media company’s single largest institutional shareholder. But few knew about his total exposure, since the shares were mostly held through complex financial instruments, called derivatives, created by the banks.

A fire that engulfed a Chinese-owned clothing factory in Yangon, Myanmar on early Wednesday morning was likely the work of arson as tools were found on the site, an industry insider told the Global Times.

The fire broke out at around 4:37am Wednesday morning at the first floor of the factory, which was owned by JOC Galaxy (Myanmar) Apparel Company, Luo Muzhen, Secretary General of China Textile and Garment Association in Myanmar, told the Global Times on Wednesday.

CEO of world’s largest money manager: ‘I am incredibly bullish’ on the stock market

(PUBLISHED THU, APR 15 20218:48 AM EDTUPDATED THU, APR 15 202111:44 AM EDT)

~ BlackRock CEO Larry Fink noted that a host of factors are likely to propel markets higher in the near term, even as the S&P 500 and the Dow hover near record levels.

~ “I believe because of monetary stimulus, fiscal stimulus, the cash on the sidelines, earnings, the markets are OK. Markets are going to continue to be stronger,” he predicted.

BlackRock CEO Larry Fink said Thursday he’s optimistic about financial markets as the economy attempts to recover from the coronavirus pandemic.

“I am incredibly bullish on the markets,” Fink said in an interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” He noted that a host of factors are likely to propel markets higher in the near term, even as the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average hover near record levels.

“I believe because of monetary stimulus, fiscal stimulus, the cash on the sidelines, earnings, the markets are OK. Markets are going to continue to be stronger,” said the co-founder and chairman of the world’s largest asset manager.

“A big reason why there’s so much cash sitting on the sidelines during Covid and during remote working our behaviors have changed dramatically,” Fink explained, noting the amount of money many commuters are saving by not going into work.

“Whether the money is coming from a stimulus check or is coming from savings or behavior changes for savings, I think it’s fantastic that we’re seeing more people either investing for the long term or even trading,” he added.

Fink also commented on BlackRock’s institutional client base, which includes pensions funds, saying climate change and inflation risk are bigger concerns to them than cryptocurrencies.

Fink on Covid vaccines, budget deficits

The BlackRock CEO cautioned near-term risks to the stock market do exist. Fink said the arrival of coronavirus variants that dramatically reduce the effectiveness of Covid vaccines is the biggest one.

Long term, Fink said, the government deficit — which has grown as the U.S. Congress passed trillions of dollars worth of pandemic stimulus to support the economy— poses a more of a threat.

“Deficits right now are not a big issue, and that’s what the markets are saying,” Fink contended. “They’re not a big issue because the amount of money that’s on the sideline, the amount of capital that is trying to be put to work.”

However, Fink said the strength of the economy in the years ahead could change his outlook.

“If we don’t have economic growth that is sustainable over the next 10 years — and I’m saying economic growth that is above 3% — our deficits are going to matter, and they are going to elevate interest rates at some time,” he said.

Fink’s comments came after BlackRock reported first-quarter results that beat Wall Street expectations. The company’s assets under management also increased to just over $9 trillion, up 39% from $6.47 trillion in the same quarter a year ago.
