There's no stopping the fall of ADEX for the whole media industry. We are seeing more and more ads on Astro, but those ads carry lesser value than they used to be. More ads, but less money.
That's the reality for newspaper, TV and online media.
Just look at all the news sites too, more and more intrusive ads. But all going deeper in red. Unless the government puts tight leashes on Facebook and Google like Europe, there will be no saving for the local media industry.
KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 22): Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd has suffered a data breach, exposing customers’ MyKad data.
In a statement on their official website, the group said it had recently discovered the unauthorised access to subscribers' MyKad data such as their names, identity card numbers, date of birth, gender, race and address.
“Less than 0.2% of our customers are affected in this incident and we are in the process of informing them. Please be assured that no financial data of our customers had been disclosed. We addressed this incident immediately and stopped the unauthorised access,” the media group said.
It added that it has informed the police, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Department of Personal Data Protection — and is working with the authorities to address the breach.
It noted that it is not able to comment on the data breach in order to facilitate ongoing police investigations while reiterating that it takes the protection of its subscriber’s personal information seriously and has taken steps to further strengthen its data security.
“Astro regrets any concern or inconvenience this may have caused. We will continue to be vigilant in protecting our customers’ data,” the group said.
This marks the second time a data breach involving Astro subscribers' data has occurred in the past 14 months.
On June 6, 2018 online publication Lowyat.net had reported of a similar breach occurring for up to 60,000 Astro IPTV customers — with the data fetching RM4,500 for 10,000 records.
Revenue has been contracting for eleven consecutive quarter signaling severe structural disruption to its business. Expect revenue contraction to accelerate...
Compare EPS with same quarter in 2017 and before that no that good. Of course, compare with 2018 Q2 is good because that's when Astro has the worst quarter due to World Cup content cost problem.
If you compare the revenue with previous quarters, it is sad.

Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd and China-based online entertainment service provider iQIYI Inc have launched a new online video application (app) which marks the latter's first app outside China.
This follows a content partnership inked between Astro and iQIYI back in June this year.
Astro has the exclusive rights to deliver iQIYI content on TV, On Demand and OTT in Malaysia, including the world's first iQIYI branded channel comprising iQIYI's extensive slate of original content, from drama to variety shows and movies.
At the launch of the app today, Astro's chief executive officer Henry Tan said the partnership is timely given that streaming services continue to be in demand
