Malaysia government's SafeTravelPass all-in-one contactless travel pass a solution to post-pandemic travelling complication?

Malaysian or non-Malaysian coming to Malaysia has to complete the COVID-19 entry-registration, quarantine hotels booking and payment, payment facilitation for other government fees, as well as vaccine record checking. Travellers are given the option to complete all the task at all-in-one portal SafeTravelPass Malaysia (https://safetravelpass.com.my) provided by Government of Malaysia.

Different from travel agents and brokers attached to hotel or private companies offering hotel bookings, SafeTravelPass Malaysia is part of TracAPM government entry-registration and Covid-19 quarantine process management, booking quarantine rooms directly from government system.

Quarantine stations are not normal hotel rooms and only qualified hotels are allowed to take part in government quarantine arrangement. The rates provided by hotels are standard and non-standard (premium), updated directly from hotel into the government system.

Full Automation is technically ready; is Human Factor in reality feasible enforced?

Quarantine success models can be found from experienced countries, where entire quarantine process is within a single flow, fully automated, without other parties interference. Malaysia government is doing the right move to implement TracAPM system, but is the human factory such as politically driven and economically interested parties able to comply and correct SOP is able to be enforced?

The Malaysian government objective is to make sure all quarantine processes are fully automated, managed under minimum human touch point to reduce the risk of Covid-19 spread, especially integrated 100% of the touch points within the process of registration, booking, payment and rooms assignment for all Covid-19 suspects. In the case of Malaysia, more than 90% of the multi touch points are not automated, where the risk of Covid-19 spread is hishly exposed. TracAPM is to minimise the risk within these manual adhoc touch points.

The complication of too many travel agents and brokers cross selling "quarantine stations" as if these are "hotel rooms" is causing government costs and resources handling adhoc reservations, worst of all with no actual updates of rooms availability. The situation is out of hand when not only agents or hotels started to miss use the quarantine needs as hotelling business, created packages of standard, non standard, special luxury etc, in hope to rip off economic gain not within government system.

These manual processes are the main cause of long-hours wait in airports and borders in KLIA and other borders, which can hardly handle 1,000 travellers a day right now, on top of virus spreading risk. 

Delta variant sparks concerns, future mutations remain a threat

Government's SafeTravelPass Malaysia solved the problems by giving hotels direct access to government system to update latest room availability as well as providing realt-time quarantine stations process management information by the government to the hotels on all their bookings confirmed through SafeTravelPass Quarantine-Station Management System (QMS). Travel agents and brokers reservation records is now on government system and within hotels own control in government pre-set rules and regulations without payment and room availability disputes happening everyday.

However, SafeTravelPass Malaysia is without much promotion despite being the official TracAPM entry-registration system in KLIA. SafeTravelPass QR Code is the default travel pass recognised by government of Malaysia. Travellers who registered online can scan-and-go upon arrival to Malaysia.

Despite under promoted, SafeTravelPass Malaysia is here to stay for a long time, post Covid-19 pandemic. The system is part of TracAPM which is the core system for Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia (APM), and is part of government of Malaysia digitalisation master plan.

The digital age of Malaysia shall highly promote healthy competition through better services, by encouraging service providers to use  technology to improve people's life above all. SafeTravelPass Malaysia is an example of good progress by government of Malaysia to bring merits to the poeple of Malaysia and not as an expense of government administrative cost and quality of service.

SafeTravelPass Malaysia is part of TracAPM digital system, operated by Malaysia Civil Defence Force (Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia or APM), under Prime Minister Office (Jabatan Perdana Menteri or JPM), the government of Malaysia.

SafeTravelPass and TracAPM are provided by Tri-G Technologies Sdn Bhd, the sister company of Nexgram Biomedic Sdn Bhd, both subsidiaries of Bursa Malaysia public listed company Nexgram Holdings Bhd.
